i'm not sure who to contact, for a beginning into an area i feel will increase adoptions from animal shelters.
i'd be willing to use my photo equipment ie;long roll Z-2camera,lighting system, backgrounds, and some props.totally on a volunteer bases.
all i would ask for is an 8'X10' area to set up in for just the time for a photo session.the adoptable pets will be seen in a better light, instead of on the floor ,in a cage.can you get me into contact w any interested parties? thank you..... jim baumgardner, louisville,ky.
p.s. this idea could also be used as a fund raiser for the shelters.

Learn to get the dog in a calm, submissive state of mind. The dog will look friendly and lovable.....
Call Ceasar!!!!

Hi jim1945: My daughter is part of an animal rescue group, mainly dogs. She will often on her way home from work discover dogs that have been dumped along side the road near where she lives out in the country. On Christmas eve of 2005 she discovered these two sisters, just trying to climb out of a cardboard box along the road.... She sent the wife these pix Needless to say when we visited her on Christmas day. The daughter had named them Comet and Dasher. Once the "Grandma" held them. She wanted them so rather than pick just one we have both.... Only now they look like this and weigh over 70 lbs each.... The wife wanted medium size dogs... Daughter said they won't get to big....lol.. See what a picture and some one holding a cute dog can do..;-)

Several years ago I captured two feral kittens that were born to two cats that lived underneath the library where I worked. One was very social but the other was a little more feral. I named them Dickens and Dewey. Here's a picture of Dickens. They would run through the house at 3 a.m. with our dog in hot pursuit.

I have heard of other people doing this. A good picture can help get a dog adopted. I bet you would be welcome at any shelter.

Hi Jim, I have done pictures for our shelter here for around 6 years now. I don't think they will give you the room to work in. Space is pretty important to them. I only have a chair and small table to work with. And an able to go outside and get shots. Get ready to take a lot of pictures though. At lest I do. Can't believe how folks treat animals. Pretty sad! They do keep me hooping though. I think some months I am out there 10-15 times taking new pictures.
One thing I do offer is a picture of the new owners with their new friend. They have to setup a time that is good for me though. So I do a lot of Saturdays out there. But I shoot 5-10 folks at a time. They have a great spot by the woods to setup in.
If your shelter is as active as mine ,you might want to check to see if you have the time first. They do a lot of weekend pet fairs in the summer too. And pictures for TV and the papers.
Good times though. Thats how I got my Sammy.
Erv

A friend of mine in Tampa works for animal rescue. He tells me they are so underfunded that any type of volunteer work is greatly needed and appreciated. It's up to you to take the first step and contact them.

My brother is a reporter in Louisville working the City desk (local politics I think). I'll send him your post and maybe generate some interest.

For an example of a shelter website that uses some good photography, check this one:
