Some photos of our Scottish Parliament. Quite an ugly building IMO, supposedly most of the shapes are boat like.
This link will tell you more.

No offense to all you Scots out there, but wondering if the architect was drunk or having his revenge, or drunk AND having his revenge on Scotland when he designed this...

Excellent shots of the crime scene, tho.

I cannot understand who creates such ugly adornments to some buildings or why they get accepted. I expect money has got something to do with it.

If I remember right the guy died during the build and it was finished by someone else.

The initial estimate was something like 55 million and finished at 430 million.

I was down there yesterday and I think it gets uglier avery time I see it. I suppose some people will like it, that's their right.

I think Jerry said it already. I think when architects start to do something different for the sake of being different this is what happens.
We have a Gehry building near us that Looks a bit like a piece of crumpled tin foil, but it's pretty cool.

Hello Jim

I do not disagree with you. I have never particularly liked the building. I don't like whacky when it comes to a buidling like that. The design was however arrived at through an open process. About a dozen submissions were made from around the world. Enric Miralles Moya who won, was from a school of Catalan architecture that I suppose look to Gaudi for inspiration and buildings don't come more whacky than his. The costs spiralled because, as Jerry identified, continual changes and additions were made during the project.

I must say that the interior is better. The main debating chamber is nice.

Good shots though.

David

Its a nice set of photos. Looks like the architect got a deal on several cases of cane fishing poles and said: "MMmmm, what can I do with these?"
