A couple of weeks ago, there was a post asking about the effects of cataract surgery on one's photography. By far the majority of the responses were positive about the surgery, including mine. I experienced right eye cataract surgery a few years ago with fantastic results, and responded to the post that my left eye was scheduled to be operated on October 30, and that I was looking forward to the results. The surgery was performed as scheduled, and for two days everything looked good. On the second day, I took pictures at a huge family event with no problem. But, on the third day after the surgery day, I lost all sight in the eye. An emergency room visit confirmed that I had experienced a total retinal detachment. I underwent a second surgery to repair the retinal detachment yesterday. What a bummer to my ability to take pictures.

I remember reading that thread. I hope you have a complete recovery and will be back to taking pictures. Good luck.

Sorry to hear this, wishing you good luck and a speedy recovery.
That's why professional folks will not do both eyes in a single surgery. Imagine being blind, even for a couple days ?

I sincerely hope the reattachment surgery is successful.
Years ago I suffered a small retinal detachment when the vitreous humour, which migrates out of the eyeball as we age, and is replaced with liquid, pulled away a bit of the retina, leaving me with a small blind spot in every scene I viewed. A retinal surgeon advised waiting to see if the wound healed itself...which it eventually has, leaving me with phenomenallly good vision, after a lifetime of extremely poor vision.
Later, successful cataract surgery left me with 20|50 vision in both eyes. From age 10 years when I first began wearing glasses, my left eye vision was 20|600, the right eye 20|400. Meaning the average person with good eyesight could see at 600 feet what I would have to be 20 feet away to see.
Literally, I was granted a new visual life with cataract surgery.
Please keep us posted on the success of your reattachment surgery.
True. My bilateral cataract surgeries were done 3 months apart. I understand the time differential is shorter these days.

Hope all goes well, and quickly.
I go back to the doctor this coming Tuesday. It is incredible what can be done to repair this kind of thing; and I believe that in time my repair will be successful. I will admit that when I went in for the cataract surgery, I didn't anticipate this kind of problem.
Thanks to all for the kind wishes.

We never anticipate problems but thankfully there are folks to fix mistakes.
