Has anyone spent extended time. Say 6 months road trips in a Class B Motorhome?

No I haven't, but I have done that in a station wagon. (1971 Ford Country squire station wagon - had curtains and a nice mattress)!

My wife and I did several months in one in Europe. Loved it. Never a problem.

Wife and I did it with a travel trailer.

Not as fancy as a Motorhome but much easier to manage, as we can park the trailer and 5 mn later drive the pick up around anywhere, anytime.

We had in 1969 a VW camper. Loved it. Now at 71 not so sure. My husband has this idea of spending 6 months next spring in a class B, seeing half the country.

I would take a motorhome over a trailer any day for maneuvering. And it doesn't take long to set up and unhook the car. As for 6 months in a small one...just don't bring much. For long term I'm glad I'm in something larger. You will find you can fit in a lot more parks, so enjoy the 6 months on the road. We love our big RV, but we are limited in where we park it.

I think one can maneuver a truck/trailer combo as easily as a motorhome anywhere, except for going backwards maybe. If you have a car in tow with said motorhome, good luck going backwards...........

The rest of the year I can use my truck as a travel vehicle as well as to carry misc. objects ( unlike the motorhome which will sit at home for months).

And the cost comparison isn't even close !

I wouldn't want to spend 6 months in a class C RV.
Ours is a 26 foot model and it is just too cramped for anything over a couple of months. I can't imagine more than a couple of weeks in a Class B

Years. 22' Flair, downsized from 25'. Great for one, okay for two (IF they're really friendly). You'll want to avoid as much as possible temperatures less than 30f. You want more information PM me.

One of us is not retired, yet, so the longest we've been out in our 23' Roadtrek Sprinter based "B" is two weeks. No problem there. B's have great maneuverability for unhooking and using in town, etc. Plan on much longer trips after Jan 1 with no reservations on space in the unit.

Ask your question on rv.net, irv2.net and sprinter-source.com for more response.

Enjoy.

Doug

Me and my wife are currently traveling in a 20' Class B all around the US. This is our 6th trip and our longest. We've been on the road 14 weeks and have traveled over 10,000 miles. We did 10 weeks in 2013 to Alaska from So Cal and that was 11,500 miles. For traveling/sightseeing there is no better way. I own a Class A Motorhome too that I still use to Camp in. This is 1/2 the cost and so much easier to get around because I can park in a regular parking spot. To me that's the key to downsizing, buy one that can park anywhere and you'll be glad you did rather than have extra room . As you can see we still have a long way to go and we are still happily married !!

My husband and I have been living in a 35 foot 5th wheel for 4 years and love it. We live on acreage in mountains outside Tucson, AZ currently (in the 5th wheel) and are planning a 5 month trip through Canada getting on the AlCan Highway to Alaska beginning in May, 2015. A bucket list item since I read about the AlCan Highway in my 3rd grade Weekly Reader back in 1953. We camp in the woods and travel in the summer, and until we bought property, stayed in various campgrounds (not RV resorts) near Phoenix, where our children live, in the winter. We rented out our home in Tempe, AZ, until we sold it. I love living this way; I am still able to pursue my hobbies, spend time with my grandchildren and see the country. Best of all worlds.

Thanks for your input. The class C is more for me. My husband wants a class b . I don't think I would feel safe driving the bigger model.
Once again thank you
