Decides to join other popes that had to embraced 'then" current scientific discoveries to remain viable and progressive and relevant. Pope Paul V threatened Galileo with imprisonment for embracing Copernican theory, which he had observed first hand... which flew in the face of religious "proof" & teachings. But like the current Pope, Pope Urban VIII found a way to embrace it.

Old news. The church has recognized evolution since 1954. Check Humani Generis. The big bang theory was developed by a Catholic priest.
Copernicus was a Catholic priest. Galileo was not in trouble for embracing heliocentrism, but for teaching that heliocentrism meant the Bible was not infallible.
