If money is not an issue, and if you need the extra AF features of the D750, then that would be my choice.

Otherwise the D610 is a fine camera.

Check out the review Jerry just posted in the Links and resources section that compares the D750 quite favorably with the D810.

At this point its primarily a financial decision. At $600 more the D750 is pricey and image quality is essentially the same. But the D750 does offer some very nice advancements over the D610 in focusing, processor speed and video.

At 66, am I too old to wait for a full-frame mirrorless camera?

The tilting LED screen on the D750 would be an incentive to me. Is it worth the price difference? I'm not sure...maybe...

I wanted a good camera and decided on a Nikon. I was talked out of it by someone who had lots more experience with cameras. I purchased another camera. Hated it. Still wanted Nikon. In 1971, one year after purchasing other camera, I got my first Nikon FTN. Loved it. Still have it even though I use digital now. Suggestion. . .if you want the better camera, and you can afford it, get the D750. Don't miss out on the camera that will make you happy. Go for it.

If you can afford it, the D750 will make you Happy, Happy, Happy! Terrific image quality, tilt screen, on-board WiFi, rapid Auto Focus, and more. I am very pleased with the 750. I kept the D7100 as its crop factor will extend the reach of my telephoto lenses for those long shots of wildlife but the 750 is definitely the camera of choice for every day use. I think there are still deals on the 750 with the 24-120 mm kit lens that saves about $300 on the lens. I opted for the 28-300 glass from Nikon.

Always get the most camera that you can afford. If you can afford the D750, get it. If you get the 610, there is a good chance you'll say to yourself "I should have bought the 750." But if you get the 750, you'll probably not ever say to yourself "I should have bought the 610 instead."

Another thing to think about - the D750 just came out, it won't be upgraded soon so you are getting the latest with it. When I'm looking for a new electronic gadget, the first thing I think about is time-to-next-upgrade and whether I should wait to see what comes next. Now is the time for the D750.

Although I'm not presently a Nikon user, I agree with mdsiamese!
