In many of the instructional videos for photo editing, the narrators all seem to recommend a Wacom pen and tablet. I've done a little research and ordered one for myself. Anyone have any comments, helpful hints for me?
They take a little getting used to, but are great for editing - far better than a mouse or (even worse) a laptop touch pad.
Just watched a presentation on tablet and pen here is the info the video is avalable to watch

Dear
We hope that you enjoyed the presentation.
As discussed, a recording of the material that we presented can be found in our webinar playlist on YouTube. Here is a direct link to the video:

I used a Wacom, excellent tablets, but bought a Cintique now, have not yet opened it up. My wife says I have to finish the attic before I'm allowed to open the box.
About 9 years ago, I was doing so much retouching that I was developing carpel tunnel syndrome. There was also another problem; the mouse with the rubber ball inside would freeze up on screen as I was outlining an object in Photoshop.
I bought a Wacom tablet and both problems disapeared. It took several days to one week to get used to the eye-hand coordination. A mouse that works with the tablet was included. I have never used it.
I find it is faster to navigate than the 'pick up the mouse, reposition, drag, repeat' to move the pointer across the screen. I also find it easier and more accurate than the 'drag the mouse fast' to move across the screen quickly.
I have a 4x5 Wacom tablet that I carry with my laptop because I hate the touchpad on the laptop.
i have been using wacom tablets for about 10 years. i use the intuos4 medium at work and at home. for my laptops, i carry their really inexpensive bamboo model.
they are a pain to get used to...but once you do, you will never use a mouse again. i haven't used a mouse in probable 8 or 9 years. the pen is so "natural"
i bought the bamboo models at best buy for around $69. they are awesome. the intuos 4's have all the programmable buttons and wheel...once you get used to one..you will never go back to the mouse.
but like i said, it takes some getting used to...best thing to do is use it for a week with your mouse..then unplug your mouse after that week and you'll get used to it.
