GPS for Nikon D4S?

Has anyone used third party GPS for Nikon D4S? I have tried two brands but they both do not work. The sellers claimed that they both work on the web. When I contacted them for the return and they confirmed that they never tested the unit for Nikon D4S. They thought it should work for D4S because it works for D4. --Thanks!

Hi Richard,
I use this method to get GPS info onto my photographs:
Purchase an Eye-Fi SD card an insert into the camera.
Install the Eye Fi software onto a smart phone or tablet.
In "settings" select "use device location to add location to my photos"
Take a set of photos and they will be sent to the smartphone or tablet.
When they are loaded onto your smartphone or tablet the photos will be "Geo Tagged" using the devices location.
I use an LG G3 tablet which fit neatly into my camera bag, or my LG G2 phone when not using my camera bag.
Hope this helps,
John.

why not buy and use Nikon's hot shoe mounted unit? I have used it all over the world without any problems. Cable connection not absolutely perfect -- just need to check it periodically to keep it tight. Can not use it and flash at the same time but that is rarely an issue.

Considering the option to buy Nikon GP-1A. But still want to check other options with heading information. Thanks!

I researched GPS units and most had some type of problem/issue. I got an app for my iphone called gps4cam. To use this app, the iphone saves the geotag data during your trip/photoshoot and operates independently of the camera. At the end of the photoshoot you export the data by emailing it to yourself. You must also take a jpeg of a QR code on the iphone (multiple QR codes if a long trip) which you will upload to your desktop at home. When you get home you use an associated desktop app to geotag your photos on your computer.

I just returned from a 1 week workshop in Italy and this app worked great.
You can pause the trip and resume at any time. The data is not lost if the iphone runs out of battery or is turned off.

Thank you very much! Very helpful. I was checking youtube about uisng Lightroom 4 to combine the data from phone GPS with DSLR photos when your message got in. The time should be identiacal between phone and camera. Thanks again!

Actually it is best if the time between camera and iphone are the same but I don't think it matters. What's important is that you don't change the time in the camera during the trip. My iphone automatically adjusted it's time when it got to Italy but I left my camera on its home time. All photos geotagged properly.

I can see all my photos on the Lightroom 5 Map.

Thanks again! I will buy Lightroom and also download the app for iPhone 5S. Based on my understanding, if the trip is long and/or try to save battery of the phone, I can turn off the phone and turn on back as needed. I do not need to leave the phone on all time. This is the way I will go. Thanks for the great help!

You can turn phone on and off as needed. With phone on, you can also pause the app and resume whenever you want. This saves charge on the phone. I bought some battery extenders for the iphone that provide another 100% charge so i didn't have to worry about running out of charge during the day. I don't think I had to use them.

You have the choice of how long the trip is. I could have created one trip for each day but I decided to make one trip for the entire 9 days I was away.

Thanks again!! I have checked my iPhone app and read reviews. I think that one of the followings may work well for my purpose. Geotag Photos Pro or GeoTagr~Versatile Photo Geotagging. What is your opinion if you can answer?
Thanks!
