Yeah - I can see why. She is gorgeous.
That hair light blows out the detail in her hair and along the side of her face. Take that down about two stops and see where that puts it.
Then we need to get a bit more light in the eyes - what catchlight there is is low and to the right. Ideally, it looks best at the 10 or 2 o'clock position. A light - or even a reflector - off to the side and higher might do it. That light blowing out here hair and face might do the trick if it is moved more to the front and reduced in power.
The light on the camera-right side of her face is perfect. Pop a little light in those eyes and it will be a killer image.
Personally, I think you cropped a bit too tight. It will look a bit better if her chin is not so close to the bottom.

Well...he said please comment. Read the post. :-)
I suppose I could have just said how pretty she is -don't learn much from that.
I think the wolfman likes to take away from other peoples post to get some attention.

Listen to the captain. He will not steer you wrong. I agree with what he has said. Your granddaughter is going to be a heart breaker. She is very pretty.

If you were in the Denver area I would BEG you to let me take some images of her. I would not worry about this - I think the rules are there just to make YOUR LIFE DIFFICULT.
Dan your in the right section and nobody better to get advice from than capt c. The little girl is beautiful by the way!!

And the picture was moved. As stated analysis is NOT C&C.

No problem, it is just that the analysis forum is the only place where there is no room for 'Cute' and the like. On that aspect this is a place where we can learn much more about techniques and improving our vision. I am the only one being publicly vocal about it.

Color balance is warm but it works well.
Vignetting also works well. (You may want to try with an oval mask that will kill the 'rectangular' framing).
Composition is good.
What really makes the picture is the 'dramatic' highlight in the hair, more than anything else. One thing, it is a bit strong on the skin. (I am ambivalent about correcting it... This is a case where you probably should NOT change it. I/we have a tendency of looking at wash out and rule them out but here, it adds to the picture and I fear the result would not be as good if you were to 'kill it'.)
This picture is a worthy portrait of a young girl that is reminiscent of old style portraits.
I do not see why you fear to be biased because the little girl is your grand daughter.

unless you attempted this as a portrait setup shot, I think except for the blown highlites in the hair, this picture is great. I like the darker image to the left as we view it..I wouldn't change anything but PP the hair.
Too many times we are told to do this or do that, but if you just caught her at a sweet moment at whatever conditions were given you...this is an outstanding photo.....thanks for sharing.!
Thanks all for the great comments. I will try to digest them all and apply to my P.P. Eva makes the job easier because she doesn't make bad shots; she's a great model.

Well, all I can add is that she is a little doll!
