How about it? I'd like the lightest and most economical too. This new lens is turning into severe G.A.S.

I think either an aluminum or carbon fiber Induro monopod would work well.

As I think you may know, I use a steel ( spelled heavy) monopod - it is an adaptation of a cargo load adjuster for pickup trucks available at Harbor Freight (among others) - and I really do like it - for my big lens only ! It's best attribute, other than being steel and very stable, is it adjusts from the TOP - for SPEED and comfort (ergonomics). Prior to this I used the Manfrotto 685b Neotek - which is one hand adjustable from the TOP - not as stable as the steel - but it did work for me. Manfrotto, makes the only top adjustable monopods I am aware of. The photo shows my current configuration with the 3063 fluid head - but without the barstock body/lens splint.....

It's called a MISTAKE. I ordered a proper fitting one from a place in England - but they sent me one for a 600mm f4 by mistake - so instead of trying to send it back, I just kept it and made lemonade ! I think the place is listed on ebay - I think - can't remember exactly......

OR, if you have plenty of money to spend, you could get one of these - http://quickactionharness.com/ - and if want some inspiration, go to website of the lady who designed it ! - http://www.naturesportal.net/

Don, I use a Sirui carbon fiber. P-326
http://www.amazon.com/SIRUI-P-326-Section-Carbon-Monopod/dp/B004QC6VAG/ref=sr_1_1?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1414991844&sr=1-1&keywords=Sirui+heads

And a Sirui ball head. G-10X
http://www.amazon.com/Sirui-G-10-G10X-Series-Ball/dp/B00AZTCENC/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1414990902&sr=8-9&keywords=Sirui+heads

Had I to do it over, I would not use a ball head, but instead use a tilt head.
http://www.amazon.com/Aluminium-L-10-Monopods-including-Release/dp/B006JZ7QZC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1414990902&sr=8-4&keywords=Sirui+heads

Basically, I have had times where I want the "stick" not as a support to floor or ground, but folded back and tucked under my arm, or even jabbed against my waist.
And I have sat down with the head tilted upward to shoot a fireworks show in a crowded situation.

Mostly, I use the monopod/head to shoot soccer games. When a 17 year old goal keeper puts her leg into the ball, it moves down the field. I can follow it by swinging with the action.

Anyway, I'm really happy with the CF stick and it locks up tight. Never have had it slip at all, yet is easy to adjust when I want to.
The tilt head is the only change I'd like to make. But with more experiance I might decide I like the ball head just fine.
I'm kind of fickle that way.

Psst... it's camouflage. ;)
If you go to a Joanne's Fabrics you can buy a variety of camo fabrics and wrap up what you want.

Hell, I could make you something. PM me if interested. ;)

I picked up a Manfrotto 682B from Craigslist for 75 bucks a couple months ago.
