I would close the eyes. Hate when corpses look back at me.
Good idea, that is disconcerting. :D

Just curious; what factors informed your composition choices? (I am not criticizing or suggesting that you should have done anything differently, and I would have gone for a vertical composition, directly from the front, not looking up from the chin.)
Thank you for the question. The "corpse" was a considerable distance from me on private property. A long focal length was necessary so my ability to compose was limited. You make a valid point regarding a vertical format and I have considered cropping it that way. In this photo my intent was to show the contrast between the dead (artificial) head and the vibrant, fresh blooms and so I liked the way those flowers framed the subject in this orientation.
Below is the original out of the camera and my edit underneath for comparison. As you can see, I cropped tightly to eliminate the object coming from the top of the head, changed the white balance, and manipulated color and tint to make the head appear purplish. Sharpening and structure were added and the highlights of the flowers were reduced.
Hope this answers your question. :-)

When has television ever been concerned with ethics? :hunf:
Thanks for getting back to me! I thought that maybe I was missing something. Have you considered a square composition (cutting from the left)?

Maybe, to be honest I can't remember whether I did or not. So many photos, so little time.
If you wish, you are welcome to show me the crop and post it here. :)

I don't know. It feels a bit cramped.

It's not bad, but I agree with you. 8-)
On the other hand, the tension created by the cramping may work in terms of the pathos of this image.

True. Nice word "pathos." 8-)
