It's a really nice image, clear, sharp, soft yet crisp focus, great bokeh. Would you mind posting the original so I can see the changes High Pass made. I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks.

very nice example of using "high pass" as a stand alone editing technique. I have only ever used it as a means of "sharpening", which works better than "unsharp mask" for me. By using a layer blend of "overlay", the "high pass" layer seems to just sharpen the edges of the original, and not everything in the shot. I will have to try it as a filter unto itself. Nice picture for sure.

I decided on High Pass because the original is too soft. I think I focused on her collar...but I really liked the photo so I had to find something to make it work! :)

What a treasure. I just want to reach out and tell him it's ok.

Thank you very much! She's waiting on my cue to go retrieve a goose. She's very intense while hunting and training. And her expressions are priceless! Glad you liked it

The original is not too shabby. Both nice. Okay, maybe I'm a step closer to PS. Gotta sleep on it. Thanks. :-)

For the sake of constructive criticism, from a technical standpoint, I feel that your hi-pass shot looks overly desaturated. It looks flat. Moreover, it doesn't appear that very much sharpening took place. I like the more colorful original better. Artistically, the image of the dog is quite nice.

I tend to agree with kayautho...the original is nicer. If I understand what you are trying to achieve, you might try reducing the emphasis on the collar using "selective color" adjustment layer or possibly create a layer for the collar only and reduce the saturation or change hue slightly. These adjustments refer to PSCS. Hope this helps.
PS...I took the liberty to do a selective color adjustment by reducing the amount of magenta in the red and adding just a bit of cyan and yellow to the red (hope you don't mind). This is the result and something that can be achieved easily in PS, if, the collar is the main issue.

You folks are confirming something I've long suspected but have steadfastly refused to allow to influence my interest or energy level - I'm just an insensitive clod. I had absolutely no trouble seeing the magnificent regal face of that critter. It's beautiful and the original is my favorite for visual impact but I'm not put off by the high pass version either. I'm not even offended by the color of the collar 'cause my mind has been trained to focus on what's important and ignore what isn't. Besides, I thought beige went with everything???

The collar is the right color in the original. It is a hunting collar and is hunter orange. I wasn't going for anything special with the High Pass...I just like the way it looks! :)I like 'out of the norm'.

HearHear...! I sitting here looking at the original and thinking" what s wrong with this pic...nothing really ...not in my thoughts anyway...But....I do like the color of the "redone" collar...It is much more flattering to the beautiful buff color of this beautiful animal...That is what makes photography so interesting...we all have our likes and dis-likes, but can also see the merit in the other's ideas...It would be so dull and flat if it were all "cookie cutter"....Linda...
