Cameras will soon shoot 6k video. This allows anyone to shoot a video and every frame will produce 30 mp files. Will this end still photography, as we know it?
Not for me. I have zero interest in video :)

The only time my D7100 has been on video is the couple of times I have been playing with it. I have no interest in video. If I did, I would be using one of my 4 video cameras. On that shoots the old VHS, one that shoots 8mm video tape, on that shoot on regular DVD and one that shoots on the small DVDs. Yes, they are okay for what they do and all are very good amateur video recorders but, my interest is in still photography. (Heck I even still have my old 8mm film video camera but none get used.
Video? No!! Wasted feature on my camera.

no not for a lot of people including me
I think what the OP is saying or trying stating, is a 30 mp picture with every frame. Presently each frame will give you about a 2 meg photo that is at best an medium grade photo. If you could record a bird in flight or a horse jumping a fence, the dog running threw the yard a 30 frames a second and have every one spot on. The yes, I see it as potential competition to the camera. I would be something to look into if your into action photography.
Just think of all wedding photos some of those machine gun photographers could post at 30 frames a second. LOL
My sense is that still photographs will always exist. They stop time and allow us to focus on a particular moment and organization of visual elements.
Some movie makers clearly have a still photographer's sensibility and their shots linger on particular visual compositions -- but the style right now seems to favor hyperventilated and hyperactive visuals. I guess there is a place for that, but for me the act of making a still photograph is really different. And, if an artist wants his or her audience to focus on a still image, it seems reasonable for the photographer to do so in the creation of the image.
If I wanted to shoot video I would have bought a video camera, which I have no interest in doing.

While you can hang a video on the wall, no one wants to stand at a screen for 10 minutes watching a video of something that a good still photographer can create the essence of in a single snap of the shutter.. well ok maybe several snaps if it is HDR but a single photo. I don't think we have reached the point where people will have video monitors hanging on all the walls of their houses to show pictures of the kids, trips, etc. Video and Still each have a place in the photography world and supply a need.

I wonder which would be more enjoyable.... pulling out all your 'video clips', or the photo album (or slide show), to share with friends?
I'll stick with stills for the most part.

mine will not be used in that way for regular scenes though i still think video capture would ease macro shooting.

Maybe for videographers, but not for real photographers.
