We have some critter coming at night to raid our garbage and looking for a way to get into the chicken house... so we want to buy a game camera and see what we are dealing with.
Does anyone have experience with these cameras? What do you have? I need brand names and how they worked. Please comment only if you have some experience with these cameras. Thanks.

My brother and I have Moultrie brand. They work pretty good. They use a regular SD card and most use rechargeable batteries. We have one that uses C batteries that seems to really go through them a lot. The one that uses AA batteries is better. There are models available within a big price range. I don't have the M880 ($130-150) but a friend at work has one and he really likes it. My brother did buy a Reconyx HC600 this year, ($550 ) that is really nice. This one can send emails of pics when you program it with your phone carrier. That is a little much for me.
You can probably spend about $100 for one that will be good enough for what you want. But again, Moultrie makes pretty good trail cams within a pretty good price range.

I have two and they work well.
Have you considered a wireless surveillance camera system? I have a Uniden system that came with 2 cameras for about $300. I have since added 2 more cameras. It records a 2 minute video whenever a camera senses motion. Pretty good night vision also. When away I can connect it to my wifi and watch each camera live from my iPhone. Just a thought. This way you can use your investment for 24/7 security with multiple cameras. I got mine at Sam's Club.
p.s. The cameras do require a 120 volt electrical outlet.

Wow! I never thought about a surveillance system with more than one camera. I like the idea of being able to see the areas around the house, on my iPhone, when we aren't here. We live on 40 acres and it would be great to check for unwanted humans as well as critters. Thanks for the information. I really appreciate this.
I would say your problem is a possum.

Google "trailcams" and you will come up with several. Most are the same tool under different bandage. They usually take a few AA or AAA batteries and an SD chip. Mine cost about a hundred bucks five years ago, still functions. Color by day, B&W @ night.
