I own a D800 and a D810 if I could afford it I would buy another 810 body right now. If you have the money do it. I still need some specialized lenses, so that is where my money is going. If it is a question between a lens or a camera body then my suggestion would be to buy the glass, but if you have your lenses then go for the D810.

I was giggling reading about the Scout! My father had a Scout back in '68 to about '75 and it had a winch on the front. He took it elk hunting also in CO a couple times successfully and then it happened.... one year he came back without it. The Scout had become stuck in the deep snow and was not retrieved until spring! He loved that vehicle. I did not like it because it took forever to heat up and we lived in CO.
About the camera..... by all means get another body. When I am seriously shooting, I have 2 Nikon bodies and always wish I had another body with another lens. Not lazy....just don't want to miss a shot. I seldom carry them very far from the vehicle since I have a bad back.

What did you decide? Go for it and keep the sensor clean using two bodies!

For those of you who have used a D800/e and D810 both, is the latter actually sharper with no AA filter whatsoever and the electronic first shutter? A veil lifted? Thanks sooo much!

i like the idea, especially d750 w/ 24-120 if still on promotion at B&H for 2900/3000, little less than d810, if you want batt. grip thats another 350 ? still good deal !!

I agree with you. I didn't buy the exact same camera but this week Walmart had a clearance sale on the Nikon D3100. It was selling for $252 with the 18-55VR lens; they gave me an additional 10% off. I was crazy not to get it. It now enters my cs arsenal. I have both cameras in my photo backpack. When hiking I carry the d3000 with the 70-300 around my neck for wildlife. When I see a scene I want to capture, out comes the new camera and I take the photo. I love it!

You are not. If you can get another body, go for it. Changing lens when you are out shooting always carries the risk that dust gets into your camera.

Guys/Gals, have you ever experienced a situation or situations whereby you had wished for an extra camera body which is or will be the same as the ones that you already have ~ so that when you want to take photos with a different particular lens, you won't have to remove lenses that are already mounted upon the camera bodies that you currently/already have ~ such as lenses already mounted upon them that are of a different focal length ? Well, if you have, perhaps, you won't think of me as being totally nuts when I have temptations to purchase another, identical camera body ! :D

Although my current Nikon camera body arsenal consists of a D800e and a D810, serious considerations are now being given to purchasing another D810 body whereas when I want to place a particular lens upon it, there will be no need to remove lenses that are already mounted upon either of my existing bodies; namely, the D800e or the D810..

It's not that I am lazy nor is it because there is money to burn, but I'm thinking that constantly removing a lens from a body isn't always the best option at hand ~ due to the possibility of dust entering into the body or contaminating it's sensor and it surely would be more convenient to just grab another body and place the lens of choice upon it, especially, if the other camera bodies and the lenses mounted upon them will need to be immediately used too ;-)

Comments ? AND, please don't be shy ! 8-)

Best Regards ~ as always,
~Doug~

I always used two or more of the same cameras when using film. One for B&W, one for color... Even with the same type lenses.

But now, until someone comes out with a dedicated B&W sensor that need has vanished.

But I would certainly consider a second camera for back up. And using them with different lenses makes sense. Of course as soon as one buys a second camera an improved model will appear.

Still wondering guys, is the D810 actually sharper than the D800/e?

Rumor is, the hunchback of Notre Dame also worked for whoever sends you checks for your photos .

Sucks to be youÂ…. I have no answers for your irrelevant and inconsequential problemsÂ… I am sure thousands of dollars are all the separate you from your eventual solution. Have salt ready to rub in all our wounds.

;0)

( good for you! yes I understand completely- however I am lucky enough to have one D800e, and I am truly thankful for the trouble of juggling lenses)

it would be nice if those pushing two cameras would identify themselves as pros. in the 60's and 70's I heard little about dust when changing lenses. after all you do have the mirror and shutter between dust and the film or sensor.

Several years ago I went on an excursion to the Amazon tributaries in Peru and took two Nikon 8008 camera bodies with the 75-300 atrtached to one and my trusty 28-85 lens on the other. I carried them both through the jungle hikes and excursions on small crafts and felt I was prepared for any and all photographic opportunities. I even had a small pocket camera for the unexpected. I believe I would have missed many photo opportunities without these options. I'll never get back to the Peruvian Amazon and knew that when I went on the excursion...so I was prepared the best I could be. If having multiple camera bodies feels right...then do it and never look back. Keep shooting!
