Guys/Gals, have you ever experienced a situation or situations whereby you had wished for an extra camera body which is or will be the same as the ones that you already have ~ so that when you want to take photos with a different particular lens, you won't have to remove lenses that are already mounted upon the camera bodies that you currently/already have ~ such as lenses already mounted upon them that are of a different focal length ? Well, if you have, perhaps, you won't think of me as being totally nuts when I have temptations to purchase another, identical camera body ! :D
lthough my current Nikon camera body arsenal consists of a D800e and a D810, serious considerations are now being given to purchasing another D810 body whereas when I want to place a particular lens upon it, there will be no need to remove lenses that are already mounted upon either of my existing bodies; namely, the D800e or the D810..

It's not that I am lazy nor is it because there is money to burn, but I'm thinking that constantly removing a lens from a body isn't always the best option at hand ~ due to the possibility of dust entering into the body or contaminating it's sensor and it surely would be more convenient to just grab another body and place the lens of choice upon it, especially, if the other camera bodies and the lenses mounted upon them will need to be immediately used too ;-)

Just donate that $ to the charity of your choice and use what you have. It would be foolish to use it on yourself.

Good idea and if I am reading you correctly, you have suggested that I donate my D800e to charity and, then, spend money to purchase two new D810's ! Yep, I can deal with that ! :D

I did the same thing last year Doug, I have a D7000 and shoot a lot of aircraft close to you (New Carlisle). Bad environment for lens changes. Purchased a D7100 for a second body, and this year a Df for street photography. Very seldom am I forced to change lenses, and very seldom do I have to clean my sensor. It works !! Go for it!

It used to be that was to have different film types handy, but now to perhaps have different lenses, filters handy. I have two D60 nikons, but rarely take them out together except for lessons. The dust in the body is a decent argument, because with digital the sensor sticks around, whereas film always brought a new sensing surface into play!

I have a D7000 and a D 7100 so I don't have to change lenses...I also have a D 200 as back with a 3rd lens on it. I try to NEVER change lenses on a digi camera!!!

Makes perfect sense to me that a backup/second body would/could/should be identical to the primary. I carry an 800 and an 800E, not identical but close enough.

In the past, excluding film days, I've 2 D70s, 2 D200s, 2 D1Xs, 2 D3s ... you get the idea.

Thanks, Phil, I can & do appreciate your way of thinking..

As for me, well, after all, an old man cannot have enough toys ~ even if, sometimes, they are not really needed ! Yet, "wanting" is entirely a different story.

Mike, thank you and not only do I get it, I completely understand it ! To be completely honest, I really do feel that changing lenses constantly is an act that is not best for a camera body, nor is it a good thing for a lens as well !

Am I the only one who is annoyed when I see someone scolded for considering a non-essential purchase and instructed as to the proper way to handle his/her disposable income?

You might consider a D750. It is lighter weight and might put you on a future vector that is better. It also has other good features.

Since it is also a Nikon the menus will be about the same. The button situation differs on the Nikon cameras and some suck more than others so you'd have to try it and see.

Also if you ever use remote release getting a camera with an alternative to that totally screwed up (pun?) connection on the D8xx would be heavenly for me. The D750 comes with Bluetooth. I don't know if has infrared, which I'd actually prefer, but anything is better than the screwed (up) connection on the D8xx.

Probably. Simply not worth being annoyed over.

Appreciate the comeback, Fred ! Thank You..

Grandpa, everybody has their shooting style and or at least a perception of themselves.
Yes, if you are a pro and the job dictates two cameras such as at a wedding or a sporting event, then that's what you have to do.
Personally, if one is an amateur, I don't see the reason in it. I get my share of lousy shots and a second body might increase my percentage of those.
Really, though, I'm always carrying my pack with several lenses, but I most often will select the lens that will give me the shots that I'm after that day based on the conditions, and that's what I use. I don't go anywhere to shoot everything that happens. I position myself where my kind of action will occur, and I shoot there. I use a zoom or a prime, but not both. Sometimes you just gotta give something up, or it will eat you up!
We are creatures of real expectations. That's why we carry two or even three cameras. That's also why when fishing we stay JUST 2 more minutes, then JUST two more. We NEVER know when the bite will come. But I have learned from experience that the bite isn't gonna happen, and I don't stress about it.
Grandpa, I carry one camera and do the BEST I can, two cameras won't make my shots better.
Good luck with your two cameras!

Makes perfect sense to me. It will be very useful when you go on your African safari. You can set one camera for high resolution close ups with a short tele prime, and the other for longer range shots with a long zoom. While your two cameras will operate slightly differently, all of the buttons will be in the same place. I have a D800E and recently bought a D750 with this type of set up in mind. Depending on what type of shooting you do, you might want to consider the D750 instead of another D810. It has a slightly faster frame rate of 6.5 per sec as opposed to 5 per sec, and using the U1 and U2 banks of settings controlled by the mode switch is faster than going into the menus to change banks.

I have been purchasing two camera bodies for years. I AM too lazy to change lenses. I do justify the laziness because I don't want to change lenses outside or have to duck into the car etc. I haven't gone the more expensive route of the D810, but I use two D5200's. It is so much easier, the bodies don't weigh a ton and even with the lenses on, it is a manageable load. I'm getting older and want to be able to make photos on my terms. I think it is a very smart move to get another body. Go for it.
