The family is going to Park City, Utah for a week in late March. As a non-skier, I will be out hunting great photo opportunities. I searched the internet, but I didn't find any photo tours or photo guides. I'm planning on trying a sunrise hot air balloon ride. I've never been in one, but it sounds great. Anyone have any suggestions? Considering the great responses regarding NYC, I'm sure there's a lot of local Park City knowledge on UHH. BTW - I'm new to the site and find the discussions very informative - even for an OF like me.

It's been a lot of years since I've been there but they used to do a lot of night sking and the lighting in and around the resort was just beautiful. Practice up on your night shooting as you'll have some wonderful opportunities.
You might try the Olympic Park for a variety of action shots - ski jumping, bobsled, snowboards catching air, etc. Check the schedule for the ski jump, though; last time I was at PC the jump was only open a couple of days a week. My wife was relieved when it was closed the day we went. :)
Kick it in the Lodge while the others are skiing. There's nature everywhere in Utah. just the road up to the lodge's are a photographers dream. Heck they may have to drag you off the hill when they are done.

My parachute abilities are right up there with my skiing and hot air ballooning....non-existent, but not to worry I'll have Brigham Young and company watchin over me, won't I? As far as tagging along goes, the more the merrier, but you have to do diaper duty (no pu...yes it was intended). That was a requirement for inclusion in the trip - babysitting my new granddaughter and cleaning up the mess. I tell you, is that a deal or what?

Sounds good to me. Heck, I'll even carry your gear. :-D

You could go to Antelope Island. It's $9 to enter. You can see all kinds of wildlife. Just go slowly and keep your eyes opened.
Please let me go with you.

hot air balloning this time of year might not happen. just over the hill into Heber city is where most of the hot air ballon rides are done. you might want to google that and see what happens. as far as photo oppurtunities close by other than Park City itself, (which could keep you busy for a long time) you could head again, over the hill to Heber city or down Provo canyon to Bridal Veil falls or if you like trains there is the Heber Creeper. its an old narrow guage steam engine that runs up and down the Provo canyon daily. If the snow is gone you can drop down towards Salt Lake City and head up over the mountain on a very well taken care of road that winds up and over the mountain and eventually comes out in Weber Canyon. you might see Mule Deer, Elk, or Moose up there.
If you go down into the Valley you can get some great smoog shots. - Dave

Thanks...According to their website, the hot air balloons go all year round as long as the wind conditions allow. The Heber Valley Railroad sounds nice, but their website shows that they are closed for the season through May. Go figure, the trains are sidelined but the balloons keep going. :)
