Everything about this image is fantastic, Cliff. You caught him perfectly on the branch. and he's gorgeous against the blue sky. Were you back there recently?

Brings back memories of my homeland. Those birds are spectacular when they do their aerial rolls. Nice photo.

No CarlySue, this pic was from my trip in May of this year. No one wants to fly to Africa right now because of the Ebola crisis. My other passion is alternative medicine and I am trying to go to West Africa to have their health staff try this natural substance in a unique way which may help Ebola victims survive. I have teamed up with a Nigerian MD who believes this technique will work as well and we are waiting to see if the Liberian govt will let us do a clinical trial there. Say a little prayer for us that it will work and help these people.

Born and raised near Durban on the coast but also lived in Southern Rhodesia (now called Zimbabwe). Worked in the Rhodesian Dept. of Native Affairs. Part of my job was game control and crop protection. Mostly elephant and lion and the ubiquitous baboon. Stationed at Beit Bridge on the S. African border on the Limpopo River. Upstream from the Kruger National Park. Hunted elephant with well known game rangers Rupert Fothergill and Ian Nyschens. Those were the days. One of these days, when I stop procrastinating, I will put pen to paper and write about some of my experiences. :-D

My son did his graduate study in Kruger Park in South Africa and invited me to see the park and it's wildlife. Turns out Kruger has over 450 species of birds, many of them migratory. I fell in love with the wildlife and started taking people to the park. The birds are very beautiful and plentiful.

Thanks Dan L. There are several species of rollers in the park. The lilac breasted is the most numerous.

I would love to go the Limpopo River. Many of Kruger's birds only live in the north of the park along the Limpopo. It's more tropical there. I am sure your stories are very interesting.
