Hellow fellow hoggers. I have been shooting a Nikon D300s for the last year but I'm looking to also go full frame. Everything that I have heard and read about the D700 has been great, but is it's techknology just to old. I have found a body with extras with 749 shutter count for $1449.00. Should I shoot this for a few years and then go with the D750 or D810 or should I bite the bullet now and get the D750? Thanks, all. I like nature, nature scapes, birding, wildlife, etc.

Perhaps turning the question around might help. What is it about your current camera that isn't meeting your needs?

You say you want to go full frame. Why is that? Are you going to be printing large poster-sized images?

Even though cameras today are purposed-specific computers, I don't find their technology ages quite the same way does a laptop or tablet in which the software they run updates and makes the hardware obsolete.

(I have in my closet a Minolta SRT-101 that I used in college 40 years ago. If I wanted to return to film, I think that camera and its lenses would still be as good now as they were then).

Thabks, Fred. My present camera is smarter than I am, but I thought that I would like to try a full frame as well? But I want to do more serious landscapes, waterfalls and though that the extra resolution might help. Thanks.

If money isn't an issue, I'd get the newer tech every time. Especially in the digital world.

Unless you need the higher FPS, I don't see why anyone would even pick the 700 over a 600.

I'll probably get a D750 soon myself. I need to sell a few more things to have my pennies in order. :)

1. FPS

2. Nikons best AF system

3. HIGH iso ability.

edit...ooops sorry! I thought you wrote the 750 over the 600.

Thanks, StefC, you know I haven't put much thought into the D610, it does have double the megapixles. Thanks.

The D700 has always been a great camera and that will never change, well some aspects may lack behind today's newest, but it is still capable of creating great pictures. Lot of folks still shoot film with cameras close to 100 years old and they still produce pic's that compete with today's best!
While it is nice (and helpful) to have good equipment, it is still the photographer that "makes" the picture!

The D700 is still a good camera, that being said, if I had the choice, I'd go for the newer technology.

If you have the money get the highest resolution. That said for most things the D700 is still a good camera.
