I was just wondering what the intrest was or may be in old ghost towns.
This is a place that isabout 20 miles from no where and my wife checking it out for inhabatants or rodents.
This is the same place but from the back side, makes one kind of wonder where the people went that used to live and farm here went.
One from the back where also the root cellar was I think.

Love shots of old buildings. Always make me think of day gone by. Kind of sad.

One thing about finding many of these you have to have a 4x4 to get to most of them. We live about 24 miles south of deadwood now there is a town going through a transition what with the new Mountain Grand Casino. But the town of Lead really took a direct hit after the big mine closed in 2001 Homestake was the lifes blood of that town. Like most of the Black Hills there are many areas that are all but dead.
Love them - shooting some here. Don't forfet to get close ups and from inside out, different story. Please Post.
Enjoy the shots. Handy man special.

sepia woulg give them an old fashioned turn of the century look. I too always want to know the story behind an abandoned building.
Wish I knew the story behind this one but I think it was a old farm or Homestead that went bust. It is some where south of Lead SD and I do know that you need 4x4 to get to it.
nice touch sending your wife in first to check things out, uh huh...
cool picture, I like seeing this kind of old buildings. Lets the imagination roam freely!
Well she has a guardian angel looking over her shoulder ... and she is braver than I am with the creatures than I will ever be.
I've explored lots of ghost towns in California all in different states of decay. One thing I'd like to add while snooping/photographing around these sites is keep in mind that they all have rats, mice etc and stirring up and breathing the dust can be deadly. Hantavirus is what some people have died from in Yosemite this year caused from that dust. The dust in these old buildings is very very fine and easily gets airborne. Enjoy your visits but tread lightly and share your pictures too !
Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

The road to this one is pretty good.
To all who do these old fallen down Houses and the old Homesteads the thing that we must remember is that though they are abandoned they were at one time someones home and we should treat them with the respect that they deserve. Also please watch out for the old nails and there are plenty of these old sites back off the beaten path. And last but not the least is what is left behind by the people of the past should be left for the people of the future so that the items can enhance the picture that they are going to take...it all adds up to the respect that we show is also the respect we teach for the property of others.
