CPL filter to use or not to use

Hi,
I am gong to the Chicago auto show, it is well lighted and
was wondering if a cpl filter would be OK to use indoors to reduce the lights reflecting off the cars.
Thanks I'm new here and would really appreciate the advice as soon as possible.

You can certainly try it, but remember two things:
1. You will lose some light and have to adjust the exposure to compensate.
2. A CPL will not reduce the glare on unpainted metal, such as chrome. It should help on the painted surfaces, but not bare metal.

A fun filter would be a star one. Makes little stars on the shiny car pics.

So a CPL filter will work the same with indoor lighting as outdoor? I've not tried my CPL indoors so just trying to learn. How do you get the 90% angle on indoor lighting??? Mike

For the star effects no need to buy expensive filter just hold a piece of screen wire over the front of your lens .

Thank you Judy I do have a star filter but never thought of using it until you mentioned it, I'll shoot a few with it for sure.
Thanks Judy

Thank you for your suggestion Bob, I do have a star filter and I will be trying a few shots with it. I appreciate the tip though, For others that don't have a star filter the screening is probably a good solution.
Thanks Bob.

I use a CPL indoors (except in very low light) and find it works well to reduce glare and unwanted flare from ambient light sources. You may want to consider also using an UV filter in combonation with the CPL.

I'd suggest to adjust you white balance to the lighting.

@ chapjohn Thank you I will certainly try the CPL. My UV filter is already on the lens, although I have never used both filters at the same time I'll give that a shot too.

Thank you Saside, The last time I was at the auto show was in 1998 and was shooting with a point and shoot. The lighting posed no problem at that time but I will certainly keep that in mind just in case the lighting has changed.
Thanks again.
