Problems with Sony DC-h2

A friend of mine has a Sony DC -h2. He says he can use the camera with the power cord plugged in but not with batteries.
I've suggested that he clean the points and use brand new batteries. He said that he has done this.
I haven't seen the camera, so I can't say personally what it does/doesn't do.
I know the question is a little vague, but it's all that I have to go with right now.
Any suggestions?

best thing is to go to where he bought the camera,ask the sales person, i have a braun shaver i can not use the cord while shaving,cordless only,the cord is for charging only,,series 1000,
