Greetings to all!.....excited to be here. I've been reading UHH since this past July and totally addicted. A new forum posts every morning at around 5:30am and I find myself eagerly seeking same within minutes. Wonder what that says about me?

I bought my first camera, a 35mm Nikkormat in 1974, as a high school sophomore. Unfortunately, my beloved hobby was rudely interrupted when my humble camera was stolen in 1976, right before my graduation.

Life, work and other "distractions" kept my love of photography on the sidelines until late June of this year; a 38 year hiatus! Following a lifetime of varying struggles and success, I bought a D5300 kit just prior to boarding an Alaskan cruise in Seattle.

Been enjoying UHH since then and this is my first posting. To all here whom have provided much wisdom and inspiration, thank you.

I might add that I've already experienced my first few GAS attacks! All of this made tougher on me as I work within easy walking distance to Adorama in NYC, a very tempting candy store indeed!!

Looking forward to learning and exploring.

Welcome to the HOG!!!

Just don't rely strictly on the "digest" that gets emailed each day, that is only 10-15% of the actual topics listed each day!!!
I use the digest as a starting point, then click on "Newest Topics" at the top of the page, then just above the listing at the left edge I click on "Unread" which allows me to see ALL of the topics that I have not read in all sections that I subscribed to!! Some days I am glad that I am semi-retired because it can take most of the day to check out all the post I want to see!!

Welcome to our forum!

Living within walking distance of Adorama must be nice - in a way. I have all those sellers just a few keystrokes away, so I need lots of self-control.

Hello Traveler90712,

I will be attending the expo on Friday the 31st (Halloween) and likely also going to the party on Saturday at 230 5th Avenue (rooftop). I will be attending a conference in Washington DC on the 29th and 30th, which doesn't give me much time at the photo expo.

Being as you're "out of towners" and quite gracious to have reached out to me I would like to meet you and welcome you to NYC. Feel free to PM me and let's see if this might possibly work. My office is located fairly nearby to the Javits Center and has some great views for taking photos!

Best regards,

Mitch

Welcome to the force...

You have entered an addictive land of truths, myths, fantasies, ghosts, goblins and good old fashioned advice (whether you want it or not)...

Seriously though - the folks here have lots of good advice and a couple of days of experience and are willing share what they can - don't hesitate to ask detailed questions, in fact, the more details, the more accurate the answer ;)

Tips on "The Title" - when asking questions the title should reflect what info you are looking for - this lets the people with the experience in that area jump in and help...
A quick example:
Good: Help with focus problem - Nikon D800
Not so good: Focus?

A few resources for you:
**The Home page on the forum is the gateway to the UHH Sections: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/section_list.jsp
**The FAQ's: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-106-1.html - please check it out -
**Forum Rules: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-1-1.html
**And finally - the search link at the top of this page will let you search the forum - TIP: use advanced link to select the section to search and you can also select "sort to show most recent topics first"

Photo Start Sheet.

Ask away and post away - looking forward to seeing some photos.

Enjoy your time - life's too short to take seriously...
Which came first - the chicken or the egg?

And don't forget to feed the cats... ;)

Welcome from another newcomer. Even though I'm in Michigan, I too am within walking distance to Adorama. The latest package from them will be arriving this morning at the post office right across the street from my house.
