I saw someone else say they dropped his lens.
Last week I decided to dropped my camera off to a Local camera store (it's been in business for 35 yrs) to have it cleaned. I took my lens off, took the battery and card out. My camera back pack has 2 zippers. One outer zipper and one more towards the middle so you can unzip that one and take out just the camera. The rest of the equipment is secure. When I got home I zipped up my bag and went to get out of my car. I heard CRASH. I didn't Zip up the inner zipper and a few things fell out of my bag Along with my Lens. I looked down and started screaming because my lens was laying on the ground. Fell about 3 feet to the garage floor. I picked up my lens and looked at it and it looked to be OK. The barrel on it turns a little hard in one spot. I have decided to send into Canon to have it looked at. My camera wasn't worked on yet, so I decided to go get it and send that to canon too, and have them clean it. So I will be with out a camera for a week or two :-((

Oh no Casey!!!! Hopefully it will be ok or they can fix it. If you lived closer to me I could lend you a camera to use so you wouldn't be lonely.

But yours will be back soon

Thank you Janyce. I do have my husbands camera if I really want one. I just dare hold it in fear I will drop it... :-).

Ouch!, Canon is kinda expensive for repair work, but good luck! In the future you may want to learn how to clean your own sensor, it is not really hard at all and takes just a few minutes, the old rumors about if you touch your sensor you will ruin your camera are way over stated, the fact is that you can easily clean your sensor at home. I do recommend that you but a Sensor cleaning kit if you decide to try this.

Sorry to hear about your mishap.
I did something similar to my Canon 100-400L :-(

Took Canon just over a week to get it back to me - BETTER than new :-)

So here's to your lens coming back better than ever! :-D

GT my 100-400 was in my bag in the secure part. I am lucky both didn't fall out.

Well, it could have been worse. One day my wife and I were out walking in a forest and I stopped to put my telephoto lens on my camera. A couple of steps later, and a tripped over a root ... it turned out that I had forgotten to zip up the compartment into which I had put my normal "walking around" lens; only when we got home did I discover that I no longer had a "walking around" lens. I hope some forest creature made good use of it.

Not unless you go back and leave a body also...

I know what a sinking feeling that can be, sorry for the loss.

Well, it did give me a justification for buying a better lens.

Always a silver lining, and Cassey's is a cleaner adjusted lens and body.

Mine is being shipped to Sigma tomorrow. After the fall it took yesterday, there was a stiff spot in the zoom. Let hope both of our lenses come back better than they were before.

Not acceptable! What a golden opportunity!
I recently dropped my D7100 and broke the mode selector lock button. Everything still works but I sometimes accidentally switch from manual to AV. And I have drops and spills insurance, so the repair is covered.

But (my logic) was that this was the perfect time to upgrade to a full-frame body so I wouldn't be without. Still haven't sent the D7100 for repair. Waiting until I figure out all those new buttons. :D

I would love to upgrade my camera, but it only needs to be cleaned. Spots are showing up in my pictures to the point, there are to many to take out :-(. I would love to upgrade my lens, but I have only had a couple years and can't justify it.

Cassy, I dropped my Canon 70-200 f2.8Lii from waist height about two years ago. It landed on the tripod ring and scared me to death. Fortunately it has worked fine ever since. You did not say which lens was dropped. Gary
