Frankly, there are those that absolutely hate Paypal, I've never had an issue with it. You can also set up an account with Square register, and send and invoice and be paid via credit/debit card. Just like paypal, they will charge a fee for the service, but you get the piece of mind with either that you are actually getting paid. When you ship items, spend the extra to get proof of delivery/signature required. Not just here, but selling on the net. That way, they can't claim that they never rec'd the goods. Been selling since "yahoo auctions" was still active, and have only ever been burned once, (money order) and that was the one time that I forgot to check the box for signature required. Had to refund money, because I couldn't "prove" they got the item. Coincidence? I think not.

Not trying to be snarky here, but if you're going to sell ANYTHING online to ANYONE (here or elsewhere), you really should open a PayPal account. Free and easy and no, I don't work for them! :)

Setting up is free, selling isn't.

You do pay the commission.

Not if you accept the payment as a "friends and family" transfer.

Discuss options with the buyer -

Paypal will send money to almost anyone, even if they don't have a PayPal account.

A certified check.

Some financial institutes will mail a check via bill pay (or similar package)

Bill,
Paypal is a very good way to go. The seller will be liable for 3% in selling fees though. I am a charter member of Paypal from long before Ebay owned them and have have well over $100,000 in transactions with them and only one issue that was caused by a scammer. I prevailed but my money was held up for over a month during the investigation. (I can provide details of the issue if you want.)
Another good way is via USPS Money Order, but then the buyer must trust YOU to send the item since he has already paid with an irrevocable method.
And ALWAYS ship with a delivery signature required, it costs more but is worth it to protect YOU.

Join Paypal, it only takes a few minutes, some members buy sell with checks and I have never seen anyone complain about not being paid.

I have done two transactions here and they both went very well.

I have sold many things from firearms to cameras and have never had a problem asking for a money order or a cashiers check as payment. I do not like PayPal because I end up losing money on the transaction.

My suggestion would be to check out sellers for your camera gear you want to sell or check on ebay for sold prices of similar equipment. Once you have come up with a price you can live with then take photos of the equipment and post the pictures and price here on UHH. Tell us what you will accept for payment and see what happens. Most people are honest and will send you the check or money order though it is easier for them to use such as PayPal.

Good luck,

Dennis

It is easiest to remember the 3% fee and add it to the cost of what you are selling. Square Register has the same 3%. I prefer paypal, but do have a Square account as well, since we sell onsite at some events, and it allows me to process credit cards.
