iPhoto to Light Room Manipulation

• I would like to view & do some editing in iPhoto and finish them in LR.

• I change my iPhoto Preferences to "edit in LR"

• I manipulate the photos there.

• I have no idea how to save the work/manipulated photos in LR so that it will then change the original file and appear in iPhoto.

• I know it's possible because I've done it using Photoshop.

• PS has a "save" option where as LR has only "export". The iPhoto system does not really allow you to export back into their numbered filing system.

• Any ideas? Thanks! it has a "save what I've done? Lightroom seems to only have "export" and the folders keeping the Iphoto files are not visible.

LR is designed to be the hub of any workflow system and does not really work as an External Editor, its usually the other way round. Import and process in LR, do some extra edits in another piece of software such as Photoshop, save it and the image returns to LR.

I do not have iPhoto (or a Mac) but I think LR, Aperture and iPhoto are much of a muchness, all doing the same kind of thing. As I understand it, iPhoto and Aperture are to lose support from Apple, and of course Adobe is hoping that many users will pick up on Lightroom to replace them both.

You will need to export from LR and import into iPhoto to retain the LR edits, you will still be able to re-edit in LR as the image will still be in the catalogue.

Thanks for that. My query regards exactly where to export the files to from LR, as iPhoto folders & files are "invisible". I cannot be more specific, you'd have to be familiar with iPhoto to understand further. Thanks for the reply.

IPHOTO stores the files with the iphoto package - basically it will have a file and folder structure familiar with the iphoto file....or within the Aperture package if you choose managed library....

you will need to export the edited files from Lightroom to somewhere (anywhere) on your disk, then import them into IPhoto or Aperture...

Image below shows the contents of the IPHOTO package.... right click on the IPHOTO program in the Applications folder and then select show package contents....

One of the reasons I left iphoto early on was the kludgy, Apple-mystery-control lock on their filing system - it was opaque and constantly got in the way of anything I wanted to do outside of proprietary Apple software. Also, I was frustrated by the inadequate limits to editing capabilities. First I moved to Adobe Photoshop Elements and when I discovered Lightroom, I moved to LR and do any layer-based editing in either Photoshop CS6 or OnOne's Perfect Photo Suite - with file management being done in LR. Now that Apple has shown their lack of interest in Aperture, I suspect iPhoto will remain a low-level basic consumer minor editor. I have never regretted leaving for greener - and much more capable pastures - cut the cord and breathe !

They are scrapping IPhoto as well... the new Photos will supposedly replace both....

I also think that ACR does a better job with raw files then Apple's raw converter, either that or suddenly I got much better after switching to Lightroom & PS CC....
