Glass vs. body
Saichiez was correct to state, first chose a manufacturer. Another respondent, talked about the need to stay with their lenes (debatable, but by far more right than wrong). All of my lenes are from Nikon. In college, I learned to invest in the speakers and not the receiver. I started out with a crop censor camera with kit lens, but I bought only the best full frame lenes. I knew one day I would upgrade camera bodies. The investment really paid off. Now here is the bonus...my crop censor body with its kit lens (18-300) goes with me almost everywhere. You are traveling somewhere, and it is not to shoot pictures, but your camera is with you.
