I am not impressed with HP's scanning in general, but the printing is usually quite good. We have some HP laser printers at work that produce very good to excellent color photos, but we don't have any that are all-in-one type. I had a Brother laser printer many years ago (B&W) that was quite good, but supplies were quite expensive.
Might want to check for some refurb'ed units.
Personally, I would get a color laser for printing and then a color inkjet all-in-one for the rest. The laser would be reserved for the truly important items due to the cost of supplies.

I had an Epson that I used for photos and a Brother color laser four-in-one that I used for every day printing or for printing something such as calendars, greeting cards, etc. Things that didn't need top quality. I now have a HP OfficePro four-in-one that I use for every day printing and a Canon Pro-1 for photos. There's a big difference in the quality of photos from a printer with only six cartridges and one with more cartridges.
