Hewlett Packard model 451costs about $1,000. It prints very nice photos! Ink jet printers are very messy, clogs up and costs a lot of money in the long run. It will save you money in ink expenses plus it connects to my Mac through wifi (no wires). The printer is a bit expensive (for now) but is worth the price and uses all kinds of paper (within reason). I have owned ink jet printers and know what I'm talking about!

Sorry, but to the contrary, your comments about both LaserJets and Inkjets cast doubts on whether you know what you're talking about. There is no laser printer made by anyone that prints color photos as well as a good quality Inkjet. Color lasers are great, I have personally owned several over the years. I've also owned a large number of Inkjets. A LaserJet may print acceptable pictures only if your standards are low, you're not interested in high resolution images, you don't care about smooth tonal transitions, and you are uninterested in color accuracy. You've clearly had problems with inkjets clogging, probably because of infrequent use. There are easy ways to fix that, which are not messy.

I have a very good friend who wants to purchase an all-in-one color laser printer; print, copy and scan.
She also would like it to be able to print photos. Her budget is around $300 - $400.
I do not know of any laser printer that produces decent photos. Have any of you any experience with this and/or any suggestions?
Thank you.

It depends on what is to be done with the photos. If they are to be printed up in a "photo album", for a calendar, etc., a laser printer will do just fine. But if the photos are to be bigger than 4" x 6", a laser printer won't do it.

I don't have any experience with these, but HP, Brother & I think Canon have some that are in the upper part of that range or just above. I am not impressed with HP's scanning in general, but the printing is usually quite good. We have some HP laser printers at work that produce very good to excellent color photos, but we don't have any that are all-in-one type. I had a Brother laser printer many years ago (B&W) that was quite good, but supplies were quite expensive.

Might want to check for some refurb'ed units.

Personally, I would get a color laser for printing and then a color inkjet all-in-one for the rest. The laser would be reserved for the truly important items due to the cost of supplies.

I had an Epson that I used for photos and a Brother color laser four-in-one that I used for every day printing or for printing something such as calendars, greeting cards, etc. Things that didn't need top quality. I now have a HP OfficePro four-in-one that I use for every day printing and a Canon Pro-1 for photos. There's a big difference in the quality of photos from a printer with only six cartridges and one with more cartridges.
