This photograph was taken of street art on Van Dyke St (I think) located in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, NY, and is presented in two different variations. I would like to know which one you prefer (if either). Additional critique, comments and suggestions welcomed. Thanks. 8-)

I would concentrate the picture on the main subject by;
1)shallow depth of field with open/large hole f-stop opening.
2)the left to right angle of view is good maybe a little left and back about a 1'1/2"ft.
3)the vertical perspective a couple of inches off the ground, you would have to lay on your belly for this one.
4)high contras, shoot low ISO, adjust SS espouser, 1 to 1-1/2 f-stop under.
5)set picture control to neutral instead of vivid.
6)Shoot raw and adjust in PP
7)just a note - I wouldn't lay on my belly I would switch to Live View.
8) or you can try several different combinations of the above ideas.

I agree with the others on the first one. I think the color is better, as well as the contrast.

Voting for number one. The darkness better fits the mood of the seated figure.

Thank you Dan for the detailed suggestions.

Regarding shooting with a shallower depth of field. As the subject was not colorful and the stated message was not original, my intent was to increase interest by showing the environment rather than by isolating the subject from the background.

Except for lying on my belly (not going to happen in Red Hook) your other points are well taken. 8-)

I like them both; but I do have some suggestions. I would clone out the grey area that looks like it is coming out of his neck. This is easily cloned using the white that is right next to it. I also think that I would crop it differently and get rid of some of the fence on the right. You might still want to leave some of it so that he is not on the right margin looking out of the photo; but I think some of that could be cropped and improve this very powerful photo.

Interesting image. As far as preference,I think it's a tie. The images are identical-The second has the color enhanced but otherwise I see little difference. It's an excellent image,though.
