I have the Canon 7D, and love it. That being said, I am considering upgrading to the 7D MkII when it comes out in November. I will have no need for two 7D's, so would look for best way to take the sting out of the price on the new 7D. Should I trade it in, and if so, where? Or, should I sell it? Thank you for your ideas. I'd only be getting rid of the body.

I shoot a 7d as well. It more than meets my needs and is performing perfectly. You mention that you love your 7d. If there is nothing wrong with it, why spent the extra $.

Larger sensor and higher burst rate. And I can use all of my accessories from the 7D.

I usually sell my camera gear on Amazon.com. They take a cut, of course. I just checked on the price for used Canon 7Ds - they range from $625.00 for one in "Good" condition to $725.00 for "Used - Like New" condition. I haven't checked eBay but you might try that next.

I think a very valid suggestion. That cash not spent on the newer body could go into other items to make that 7d even more enjoyable.

The original 7D is still an excellent camera and will make a great back up to your new MKII.
If you can swing it financially consider holding on to it. You never know, you may have to send in the new camera some day for a repair or cleaning and a good photo op comes up at the same time.
Maybe a family member will develop an interest in photography and would like the 7D.

I have two 7Ds and have the new one on pre order and do not plan to sell either. I can use the cash as much as the next person but they are worth more to me as good cameras that work, then the small amount of money I can get via sale or trade in.

Also, in the very near future, used 7Ds are going to be all over the place as people begin to dump them when the new one is out and resale value will plummet. So if you absolutely have to sell it do it NOW if it's not too late already.

I have the 7D also and just pre-ordered the 7D MkII. Certainly the 7D is a great camera, but the lure of 65 AF points and the dual digit processors, built in GPS, built in intervalometer, etc., was just more than I could resist. I have not decide yet if I'm going to sell the 7D. I kind of like the idea of having two cameras with different lenses that I can use interchangeably without the need to stop and manually change lenses.

I will keep the t3i as a second camera.

Absolutely. Think about this. Assuming you could get $700 for the 7d. The 7d2 goes for $1900. leaving about 1200. For that amount you could get an 80-200 f-4 L lens.

Since this is an important issue for you, the upgrade seems sensible and of greater value than another lens.

I am usually in the better glass camp, but I am even more in the listen to the OP camp.

You have clearly stated your desire for the larger sensor and burst rate. If that is important, I assume you shoot some action. The 7DII is designed for action. The significant focusing system improvements should be of great use to you and will help you maximize the potential of the glass you already own.

The 7D Mark II has the same size sensor as the 7D. How often will 10fps vs 8fps matter? The battery grip is different.

There are other reasons to get it, like the new AF system. And the sensor image quality is sure to be better, including high ISO performance, but I haven't seen good reviews/tests of that yet.

By larger, I think the OP meant 20.2MP vs 18MP

You're better off to sell it...they don't give you much for a trade in. The 7D Mark II looks like a fantastic sports and wildlife camera! BTW....I'm keeping my 7D for a backup camera.

The sensor is only two megapixels higher and the burst rate goes from an already very fast 8 fps to 10 fps. If those two specs are that critical go for it. For me, I would be more interested in the quality of the images the new sensor renders, and the much better low light performance of the new camera. To be honest, if low light shooting is not an issue for you with the 7D, then getting some new lenses rather than a new body may be a better bang for the buck.

The way new cameras seem to have problems in the first instance I would be loath to pre-order. In a year's time any production glitch will have been discovered and maybe solved. Plus as has been said - the difference between the two models ois no great shake in the greater scheme of things.
That being said I aint got the brass for it in any case
