I would like to know from anyone that already uses this system of your pro's & cons. I would be using it mainly for micro photopgraphy with the nikkor 105mm f2.8 if-ed.

Jump over into the micro forum and look at what Nikonian 72 is using. It is called a O-Flash. Right around $40-50. I am going to get one and see how it works. Heck for the money you can't go to far wrong. And his shots are great looking.

Just to clarify: Yes, Nikonian gets great hand-held macro images, but you still need a flash unit. The O-Flash is essentially an accessory that fits over the unit. I believe Nikonian uses an SB-600 with his-- but I could be wrong about that.

If you already have a flash unit I would probably recommend the O-Flash. I do have the R1C1.
Pros are that it's very adaptable and includes a lot of cool accessories: gels, diffusion heads, miscellaneous adapters by filter size, a clamp, and some other gadgets. You can add R200s (it comes with two) which can be used with the commander system controlled via the camera. The R200s can also be attached to small desktop stands that can be placed behind for back-lighting or just for a little accent lighting.

Cons: It gets kind of heavy to carry around. Since the units attach to an adapter which is attached to the front of your lens (like a filter would attach), I wouldn't use it with anything other than the Nikkor "tanks"-- like the 105G. The diffusion covers for the R200s tend to become displaced easily. I haven't used mine as much as I expected to. I'll probably give it a real workout this spring and then make a decision to keep or sell.

Thanks to all I appreciate the feedback. I dont have a flash unit yet so it allows me to look at that with the flash ring. More studing.
