I had a hole in my focal lengths! so I have been looking at 70-200mm lenses,
you know how it starts
1st, you get an idea!
2nd you go online and start looking at lenses {knowing you have the money rat holed for just an episode! but telling your self you can't afford it!!}
day 3 and 3rd on the list you go to Nikon {or canon depending on what you use} and look at "ALL the lenses wishing you could have at least half of them, but then I digress, and start looking in the focal lengths your interested in, knowing full well they are expensive!!
day 4 and 4th on the list you decide to go to sigma and tamron and look at the lenses and compare!
day 5 and 5th on the list go to e-bay {knowing full well a used one is as much as a new one, but you look anyways!!!
day 6 and 6th on the list, now your chompping at the bit, you have to have it at any cost, hands are clammy, got the cold sweats, mouth is dry, you just can not drink enough coffee!!! you have buzzing in your ears and can't sleep!!!!
day 7 and 7th on the list. "you pull the trigger", your chest gets tight {hoping it is not a heart attack!!} mouth is really dry, the ringing in your ears is so load you are sure your wife can hear it!!!!!!
then in an instant it is all over, you write down the confirmation number, run to the front door and sleep on the couch next couple days waiting for a brown truck!!!
wwwhhheeeeeuuuuu!
thanks for listening! gas attack almost over!!

Thanks be there is not a wide-angle (24 mm equivalent) tilt-shift for the Pentax 645Z or I would be selling my soul for the camera and lens. That is my wet dream landscape camera and lens ... short of a true 4" x 5" sensor and full view camera. Someday ... maybe.

Nice description of the progressive nature of the symptoms of a GAS attack. Very closely follows my own experience with the syndrome.

Decisions are made on emotional grounds, logic and reasoning are used as justifications.

Besides, you should look at a 70 - 300 mm.

I have that lens Bill, my statement is this, If you use it a lot, it is worth it. It is one of my most used lenses in the summer. Super sharp and the focus is excellent. I shoot a lot of aircraft in flight. Looking forward to some pictures from you.

Know the issue - suffering a bit myself right now.
Went to the Renaissance Fair with my D7100 with the 18-200 attached. Intent was to make movies of various acts.

As this was the first time going to this extent and an all day affair I didn't want the weight of the D810 with the 28-300 lens and surely not the 14-24.

The acts are all 1/2 hour and I shot 5. Biggest displeasure I experienced was that the 18mm just was not wide enough at times. I did pan, but...

Came home and viewed the movies and thought "Darn..." and went looking for a 14mm lens to put on the D810 - that combination would cover the entire stage without panning.

So far just looking and dealing with the question "OK, so what else would I use it for?"; who knows what tomorrow will bring.

This is the Fair's last weekend this year - maybe I'll see if I can rent one...

I just went through all the steps you did except when I got to the end, my link was different.

After all, I needed something to go with the D7100 I got three weeks ago. Oh yeah, with that 70-200 on the way, I needed a new bag too. I found this link helped to reduce my GAS... for now.

You probably know this, but motorcycles are also a cause for GAS.

I have my Bike GAS somewhat under control only because there is no room left for more bikes (5) in my garage and I don't have the space to build a larger garage.

Not new but in great condition. This is at my local shop and I have seen it. Wish I had $650. Tried it on my D300 and it is excellent and this place ships anywhere.
