Looking forward to the arrival of new Fuji HS. Torn between the HS25 EXR and the HS30. Cons for HS25, does not appear to shoot RAW. Pro is AA batteries. As I want to use it for travel in USA and Europe and do not want to carry recharging equipment around, does anyone know if there is a simple device/converter that will enable me to use AA batteries in the HS30 that is usually powered by Li-ion rechargeable batteries. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with Fuji but here goes anyway

The only cameras I'm aware of that offer battery type choices are SLR's that use optional battery grips which can accept battery adapters.

I don't shoot raw, that's just me, So no Raw wouldn't mean anything. I don't want to have to play in PS. I look for right out of the camera do nothing to it results. If the exposure is way off I'll do a quick fix in Elements.

I already have a good AA charger along with AA rechargeable batteries. The 20 would would most likely be less expensive than the 30 being a year older. I would go with the 20, wouldn't think twice about it. But keep in mind that I already have a good supply of batteries that could be used.

I think Lithium ion batteries are better for power and are lighter in weight vs AA's. But you're mostly going to purchase one or two spares in addition to the camera (30) so it's a toss up. Purchase extra Lithium or if you do Not have a AA charger purchase a AA charger and AA's.

As far as carrying recharging equipment around ... it's either that or a awfully heavy and may I say large supply of Alkaline AA's.

Decisions, decisions, Did I help any?

Thanx Ring, Food for thought indeed. Both the HS25 and The HS 30 are due for release in about a month or so. Thing about batteries is you can pick them anywhere but for charger I believe will need a european power adapter as well. Could be wrong.
Thanks again for input. Cheers!

They're not expensive

For what it's worth I use Maha C401FS Chargers and recommend them highly, always use the slow charge.

I find that the new pre charged Do need to be charged when new regardless of what the manufacturer claims, but they do hold their charge after that while stored.

Remember that Lithium ion only lasts so long too. The memory effect has been licked but they can only be charged so many times before they're shot anyway.

I still use my Canon S3is, uses AA's.

I can still use the 5 year old batteries in my D70s but they're pretty much shot and should be replaced. When this happens to a set of 4 AA's they can be easily replaced for $12.00.

Most modern equipment is international now, so look at your battery charger unit and see if it shows 110-240v if so then you don't need anything other than a plug converter, your charger will sense the voltage and adjust accordingly.

For the UK you'll need a three prong adapter and most of Europe a 2 pin adapter. Multiplug adapter is avaialble at lots of places from Radio Shack to online.
