I bought my grand-daughter a camera for her 5th birthday last Sat. (which her 4 year old sister promptly hijacked) It has a binocular type viewfinder and a 1.8 LCD. They both seemed to really enjoy it and who knows where it might lead.....

If I had a binocular viewfinder as a kid, I might have grown up to be less of a viewfinder hater.

So Canon, maybe following fisher price would be good! I bet I could be more accurate focusing!
