I was told that the "color" was disappearing fast... so on Saturday we drove up highway 88 (Carson Pass) and over Carson pass to Hope Valley in Alpine County. This is the Eastern Sierras of California just south of Lake Tahoe.
The color was still there... just a little ragged.
These images were captured with a Nikon D5100 and a Nikkor 18-300 lens.

What a lovely set of captures Riverlass. I am sorry I didn't have the opportunity to meet you this Saturday. I do, however enjoy the images you posted.

And for feed back, I enjoy the variety of shots you have taken. They all seem to be on the overexposed side. Could be my monitor.

I think your cropping is done well for most of them. I don't think I would have left the two bears in the center. It appears there is a building in the background, but I could be wrong. A view point a bit more to the front of the bears would have been more interesting for me.

The shot with the cabin has everything right in place. I also like the last shot as well.

Did you get the capture of the "natures layers" at Sorenson's? It looks very familiar. The shot of the leaf in the hair is interesting(actually I like the idea a lot), but I would have changed my angle to capture something different for the background. If you didn't know the person, then I can see how you probably didn't have any control over that option.

Overall, if you lower the highlights some, there will be much better detail in the bright leaves and the clouds in the sky. I think this set is quite good overall.

I hope this feedback is what you were looking for and proves to be helpful. Thanks for sharing and letting me know these were here to view. I probably would have missed them otherwise.

A quick note. When you post a Download, don't attach a small resample because it will come out the same size as the original post.

What a lovely set of captures Riverlass. I am sorr... (show quote)

Thank you for all the great advice. I'm not a landscape photographer and I should have taken my wide angle Tamron 10-24mm and a polarizing filter. I can't believe I forgot my filter. (Too much last minute stuff to remember.) I could have used a lens hood too. Did a lot of using my hat to block the sun.
"Nature's Layers" is in the images before we got to Sorenson's so I think it was back toward the turn off or even more west . The woman with the leaf in her hair was waiting for lunch, with the rest of us... for an hour... should have packed lunch. I didn't know her and it was taken from some distance. I really liked the shot. I have a hard time getting one thing, like a leaf, in an image to stand out. I only have Picasa 3 to PP images.
All these images needed to be darker. I tend to keep my F stops too low and I have to remember to bring it up a bit. I will work on this... in camera, instead of trying to correct it afterwards. I'm still learning about the "triangle" and how it all works.
The bears were a fun shot. There were so many people walking around and I was trying to keep them out of the shots. This limited my ability to get the right angles on some. I also need to be braver and ask people to let me get the shot. I'm learning.

I don't understand your last paragraph. Please explain what you mean.
Thanks again for taking the time to critique my images. I really appreciate it.

Usually when I post for downloads, the image is 1500 t0 1800 on the long side of the image. When you click on the download it is much larger on the screen than the post's page. If you upload a small image into the post page, the image will be small on the download. I use the largr uploads because some of my images look better when you can see the detail.

I hope that helps. I am sure glad we both had fun last Saturday. it is great to see how someone else sees the same location.

Thank you so much. Now I understand what you mean by increasing the size of the downloads. I will enlarge the size of the images. Thanks for everything.

OK, it worked. I will remember this. Thanks again.
