Need one perfect lens for travel and covering most situations
I am considering an 18-270 f/3.5 Di II VC PZD LD Aspherical IF Macro zoom (Tamron) for my Canon Rebel XTi camera; or if I can afford it the Canon version which is more $$. Would really like to have a faster lens (f/2.8 or less) but don't know if that is way out of my budget range. This would be my last lens for awhile because I have all the specialty lenses (macro, close-up, small wide angle and some others all without IS, which I need.
What is your suggestion for a one time buy to cover my needs? i do mostly nature, groups, kids, animals and on-street-people shots and hate to carry a lot of equipment. ALso do a lot of post processing with photoshop and have super printers for this. I know I need a new camera but on a budget I can better afford an adaptible lens and a piece of flash equipment to match my present camera. ANy advice? Just purchased an Epson R-3000 pro printer which is great but limited funds now.
I am personally considering that Tamron lens. It's not the fastest, but since I shoot mostly outdoors, it seems like the perfect fit. And for those few times I might be using it indoors, I can bump up the ISO to compensate. F3.5 isn't bad on the short end and there's a rebate on this lens currently. So now is the time to get a great price on it. :)
use the search feature on top of the forum and put the lens in, this lens has been the topic of discussion many times, I own on and so do a lot of others.
I have the Tameron 18-270mm lens and use it 90% of the time. I have several other lenses also. When I go to Aruba for 3 weeks that the lens that alwys attached to my camera. The pics that it takes are great.
Go to the LINKS section below and click on SIGMA LENSES.
I just brought the tamron 18-270mm lense myself, have not had the time to used it yet. Gald to see all the positive response to the lens. Can't wait to start shooting with it.
I bought this lens last year after seeing it at a photography conference at the Javitts Center in New York City. I love it! Was able to get rid of three other lenses. It's now the lens that stays on my camera 95% of the time. I did experience some lens crawl but a lensband took care of that.

i have used the Tamron 28-300 for years, but also purchased the 18-270 because the 28-300 wasn't wide enough for everything I wanted to shoot. I would recommend the 18-270. I use both lenses, just use two camera bodies if you have them.
I have a Sigma 18-250mm 1:3.5-6.3 DC OS HSM 72mm which I use most of the time. The tamron 18-270mm is just a little sharper at some longer ranges but they are about the same at 250mm. The main reason I use the sigma over the tamron is the auto focus which is really faster and always right on
Is the 18 really about 30mm and the 270mm about 450mm?
Or are these lenses designed for the aps sized sensor and reflect the true length of the lens?

Another vote for 18-270.

The true length of the lens doesn't change.
Thus: 90mm on APS-C is similar to 135mm on full-frame, 45mm on 6x7cm, 28mm on 4x5 inch...

Its a no-brainer!1 I just bought this lens for my T2i, and have had nothing but good results. The canon is a bit faster, but you pay for that luxury. get the tamron, and put your other lenses away.
i have a canon lens 55--250 EF-S $120.00 SHIPPED
real good shape....
