I think they are pretty darn good for what you had to work with.

You have some noise happening but at an ISO of 800 I would have had the same issue. I think you did pretty good for the lighting and situation you were in.

I agree with MWAC. Those colored lights are tuff.......
If you want to play with images increase the brightness and contrast a bunch. You may come up with some artsy lookiing shots.

Thanks..I wasn't sure that I could pull it off at all. Using a 50mm I had to be the zoom. I assumed they wouldn't want me using a flash while they were playing. The bigger drawback was not being able to shoot the band as a whole.
My other options were the kit lens which is a a f4.5 18-55mm or a f4.5 70-200mm. I assumed those would be too dark, is that correct?
I have even less experience with editing (obviously). Much to learn, much to learn....

Ask them if they mind the flash. Well, a lot of flashes. Tell them to wave you off if flash is too much.
See what they think. Any advice from them.
Jay Pat,
If I could've been further away I don't think they would have minded but I was right in front of the stage. I know the drummer doesn't like it, however he is the furthest away. I was also afraid it would be distracting to the people watching, as if my bobbing around the stage wasn't bad enough..hahaha. I'm sure I could get a couple flashes in but not constantly. Now they asked me to take some promotional pictures, yikes!! I told them I'd try, outside, on a sunny day.
:D :D :-D :-D :D
froknowsphoto.com has an e-book I think you will find to help you with your band photos...did in mention it is free...its free
As I looked through all of your shots there were some I thought were better than the ones you posted. This is just my opinion but get rid of the soft focus in the shots. I use it so seldom because to me it shouts out of focus. I don't think you give yourself enough credit for what you had to work with.........
Thanks coco. I'm not sure why I posted the ones I did. I think my eyes were crossed from editing so many. The first pic is my son, so that probably weighed in :)
I don't give myself a lot of credit because I'm so new at it I don't know the difficulty scale. I figure a Pro would know just what to do. I just know it was difficult for me.
I will take note of the soft focus. I actually think I forgot to a few times.
