Last peek at Fall in the Sierra Nevada

I had a couple of hours this afternoon, so I took my wife and daughter up to the mountains for some fresh air. The Fall color is about gone from the Hope Valley, and I don't think there was much of a display, but I was able to snag a few here and there. There are others not close-up in the regular gallery. Enjoy the download.

I was thinking the same thing, Earl. I took this with the D610, so I shouldn't have any problem with a decent enlargement. I have never had any of my images enlarged for decor in my own house. My wife didn't want any. She has her mother's award winning quilts draping most of the open space in our home.

Maybe I can talk her into one some day.

Hey David...

I like your composition in this shot and the colors and sun's position are pleasant as well. Do you use Photoshop or PS elements by chance? If so, might I suggest you try a bit of blurring with the compositional elements of this image just beyond the second set of primary Q-Aspen. In my mind's eye the image works slightly better with the depth of field beginning to fall off at that point rather being so sharp and distinct so deep into the picture.

This is just a suggestion for an alternative perspective and NOT a criticism of the image you have shared with us. It is certainly captivating the way it is and most probably would dress any wall with pleasing aesthetics.

Very beautiful, David, and I love the way you framed the scene. Our fall color, such as it is, has just started here.

I do use CS6 sparingly, as I have found OnOne much easier, faster and definitely user friendly than CS6. Thank you for your tip. This image is a composite of two images. One focused in the foreground, and the other on the background. I am going to attempt to implement your suggestion into one of the stand-alone image captures just to see how well it will work.

My personal preference when shooting landscapes with 35mm format was to have as much depth of field in a scenic as I could achieve. I really enjoyed shooting 4X5 view camera images for that very reason as well. It was much more difficult to acquire the full clarity and sharpness when I was stuck with film in the day. Now I have the option to take multiple images and stack them.

Thank you for your helpful viewpoint, as I am always curious as to whether or not I should try something else to an image to make it more appealing to others.

David

Thanks Donna. I can wait to see what you might capture for us.

As for the framing, I feel framing and moving the camera until everything is in the right place is one of the key elements in designing the final capture before that "Magic Button" is depressed.

You are welcome to come out this way, Larry. I would be willing to show you some great spots.

Went up to Hope Valley two days ago. So breathtaking... but going fast. The storm that is coming in tomorrow will bring the leaves down, but even without the color it's my favorite place to shoot.
This is a really lovely image of the trees and the beautiful color. This one is definitely a wall hanger.

I was up there on Saturday, in the afternoon. We probably crossed paths without knowing it. And I agree with you, it is one of the more lovely places in the Sierra to play around in. The combination of open and closed forested spots makes for relaxing hikes. The terrain is not difficult either.

Thank you for posting the kind words for my image. It makes me feel good when others enjoy the places I have visited.
