We found this in a wooden coldframe in the garden. My husband watched it catch an ant and eat it while I was changing lenses.

This is 1:1 with no cropping.

Wow that is big spider. I look at it and think what a mess that would make if you stepped on it. Good shots....Rich

A Whopper Indeed! Any idea what kind of spider it is? Is it poisonous? Do they jump? How close were you? You don't have to answer these questions, just curious, I Love shooting spiders too, no matter what kind they are! I'm impressed! Great capture!

Hi Audie, no I haven't tried to ID it yet but it didn't jump, it walked and ran. I was only about 6 inches away using a macro lens so I was a bit jumpy :)

I do my best :). It wasn't so very big, remember I did use a macro lens so in reality it probably wasn't much more than an inch including legs, but bigger than I normally see around here.

I have been looking at spider identification charts and I think this may be a Woodlouse spider. It is so called because it only eats woodlice but my husband is sure he saw it catch an ant even though woodlice were in the same vicinity.

I hope someone with more knowledge than me can confirm or otherwise this ID.
