An interview with Bobbee.
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Have been shooting since 1969. I have always had a love for the technical and artistic sides of photography. Loved the idea of freezing time.
2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Have taken classes in many aspects of photography, individual training sessions and online education. I have always loved shooting people. I did whatever I could to center on that. Currently I target only weddings.
3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
'difference'. The persons look in a portrait, the composure that is slight above the norm or something new and fresh. Even taking an old idea and repainting it.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
I use Nikon, I rely on my D800 most of the time. I use Quantum flashes. I love these guys. I shoot mostly weddings and this equipment allows me to shoot at 100 MPH, have easy control and lots of LONG power. Also my Boomerang bracket.
5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
RAW is my start. I only shoot RAW. I edit these in Adobe RAW. These then go to PS for some individual 'special' processing. Then selective photos end up on OnOne and Portrait Professional. Final edits are on the ones the customer selects for the album.
6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
I have learned a lot from online instruction. I do have to admit that I have learned quite a lot from both PPSOP and Brian Peterson and postings on UHH. UUH has a good group of people that have knowledge and experience.
7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
True formal education and working with another professional early on.
8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
Marketing and how to get the mountain to come to me.
9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
My understanding and compassion for my clients. I like to believe that after dealing with customers across 4-5 different business for 44 years I can somewhat read them and understand their concerns. Oh, and my Quantum Flashes.
10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
Nikon 24-70 f2.8. Pretty much my standard lens on my camera for weddings. My fall guy is the 70-200 f2.8. Canot beat the quality these two produce.
11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
Mostly my Quantum's. They can handle most of my requirements. For my Green Screen setup I have studio strobes and fluorescents.
12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I have two loves Photography and Information Technology. Not needing much sleep I currently do both. I am a world wide Middleware Solutions Architect during the daylight walking hours photographer on the weekends.
13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
Yes, I was shooting a NY Jets fan club group shot in a sports bar. I was standing on my photographers ladder, up in front of 90 plus people. The weight of all the equipment on my belt, holding up my shorts, let gravity exercise it's full potential. Next thing I knew I heard 90 people going 'OMG!!'. Thank God for BVD.
14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
http://www.bb-photography.org15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
Exercise your passion and don't let others tell you what you cannot do !!!!!!!! Be yourself, sing out loud when you can, be that different person people love and talk about.
