I have posted a shot at 23 mm and the bird is on the left post of the tower and the next shot is at 620mm. You can see it was a gray day. I shoot hand held F-8 1/1500sec - ISO of 160. I only wish I had my mono pod to see if it made any difference in clarity.

Can anybody identify the Hawk. I am too new at bird identification.

Gator is 403 mm F 5.7 1/400 Iso-160 again hand held.

Lets here some comments on this Bridge camera.

I used the range finder as there was so much glare on the display.

Very very good!! I have the P500 but can't hand hold it out that far. I have to have it on a mono or tripod. Fun little camera to play with. Got the red one for the wife, but she didn't like it. Wouldn't fit in her purse. :) But I get to play with it now, so it's all good. Keep it in the truck for those fast shots.
In good lighting it is almost as good as my D300s, almost;). Not sure about birds either. But I do look cute carrying it around, being it is red.

Yea, the red ones are real eye poppers! You can bring distant objects up close with that monster 36X lense. Nikon is going crazy with lens magnification...They have a new one called the P-510 (i believe) with a 40X lense! P series Nikon mega zoom's are nice cameras.

Old Tom, My guess is an Osprey, not a Hawk. Osprey's typically perch on these structures so they can get a wide view for hunting. I hope this helps, only my guess.

I love the 1st. one did you use a polarize filter? It looks like you got pretty close to your swamp friend.

No -The shot needed one but this model will not accept filters (no threads). I PP the gators back to cut the glare.
There is an adapter but that makes the lenght grow and defeats the compactness of the camera.

Gwong1 - You make a good point it could be an OSPREY.

One last thing, the nest is also present in your photo, which is common for Osprey's as well in these structures.
