The wife and I took a 30 day trip to Berlin, Prague and Rome about three cameras ago. I was shooting a little Canon Power Shot PS1. I had three cards and would change them as they filled. When I got home I down loaded then on my computer and found that the sensor had failed half way thru the trip. Many photos looked like a water color that had gotten wet and ran. Canon replaced the camera even though it was out of warrenty.
Next trip i will take a lap top and down load the photos daily, burn a dvd every couple of days and will likely pay for a on line back up site.
That happened to me, also in Berlin. Fortunately I discovered it quickly by previewing my shots and discovering that something was wrong. My camera was a Panasonic point and shoot.

There is a neat program called Dropbox.(it is free) You install it on all computers you use and when you are anywhere you have access to the net, you can upload your pics or whatever else and when you get home they can be seen on your home computer and off-loaded to whatever drive or media you choose. No need to tote along a stack of cd,s or dvd's. Just a small laptop.
Thanks for the info.
I did look at teh photos on the small screen and did see that some times there was a problem. I jsut did not know to what extent.
Me neither. I just swapped cards and all was ok after that.

My film days I never went on a shoot without two of everything. Only one time had a camera jam. A few times strobs went dead. Always had a spare.
Me too, in my single days!
Back in the good old days when i was stationed in Germany my wife and i had two pentex spotmatics, What happen on the trip where the camera failed was that I could not tell that the camera failed.
