Texting the Old Fashioned Way

I took this photo back in October 2013. I was experimenting with photography that would evoke a sense of nostalgia and travel, and thought this scene would bring back memories of an earlier time, when all you needed to explore exotic lands was a radio, some paddles, headphones, and a map...

(Yes, this really is all my gear, including the N3ZN paddles to the right in the photo)

Edited to add exposure data:

Canon EOS Rebel T3i
Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3
Aperture priority
ISO: 200
Aperture: f/5.0
Shutter Speed: 1/2s

I've spent some winter evenings on the "brass bongos" mostly on the low end of 40. Almost got my WAS on CW.

I remember reading photo mags in film days, and pictures would have all the exposure data listed with them. I never bothered to do that when I was shooting film. What a chore that must have been.

Great shot. My dad was WA9SCC, and used to be on 20m and 40m until he settled on 6m voice. He passed away in 2006, and I miss the clicks and whines coming from his "radio room".

Thanks for looking, jsmangis, and I'm glad this reminded you of your dad, and I'm sorry he went SK (silent key).
