A little further north on Hwy 1 is the Bixby Creek Bridge designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and a little further still is Carmel. There's a lot of beautiful scenery all along the highway.

Go up to Big Sur and try the turnouts on the road. Beautiful place. If you have time go to Gorda by the Sea; it's north of where you are and it's a quaint little place with great views.

Can't miss anywhere along the coast. Mendocino is quite a ways up the coast, but a scenic little town with all the water towers. San Francisco is VERY interesting.

Take Hwy 1 to Hwy 46, head inland from Cambria to Paso Robles. Nice 2 lane roads through the wine producing part of the Central Coast.

How did you like Pedras Blancas and the Elephant Seals?

We just got back from a 2 week vacation in Monterey. My wife grew up there & the church we were members of celebrated its 50th anniversary. Wish we could move back there permanently.

Point Lobos - called one of the most beautiful meetings of land and sea in the world, and photographed by Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, and many other great photographers.

If we weren't playing Grandma & Grandpa to our daughter's 2 kids, we'd be gone in a heartbeat. They're the reason we moved to Ohio from Oklahoma.

See Canyon, it has a terrific view of Morro Bay and Morro Rock; Montana de Oro State Park south of Morro Bay; Shell Beach for sunsets; Really Right Stuff office in San Luis Obispo.

I grew up around there and loved it. While your in Avila, stop in at Fat Cats and have a burger for me.

Up around Paso Robles there are several wine vineyards that used to schedule tours and wine tastings if you're into that sort of thing and just down the road from the wineries you can visit the spot where James Dean died. There's always the State hospital in Atascadero where they kept Timothy Leary. San Luis Obispo has a variety of fine restaurants and missions to visit. Morro Bay has the fish market and fleet of trawlers to shoot. You may even see a salty old sea captain or two. There are vantage points everywhere up and down Hwy 1 to get some great shots of the coastline.

If you feel like driving a fair distance, take Hiway 1 up to Point Arena; great photo ops on the way and the Point Arena Light House is a must to photograph.
