Need help on picking a new camera.
Hi, I am interested in upgrading my camera. Back in the olden days of film, I used Minolta cameras. I haven't done much for several years, but have recently gotten the bug. I am looking for recommendations on what camera to buy to get the sharpest still images. I am not currently interested in video, and the simpler the better. I have been using Olympus point and shoots and like them because they fit in my pocket for hiking. I have been able to get the attached photos with the Olympus SZ10 and SZ16. I was a little disappointed that the 16 was not superior to the ten, and in fact in some applications it is worse. Thanks for your help.
HI Grandpa May I ask why you want to upgrade from what you have, those are beautiful photo's?
OH ya, and what is your budget and what do you want out of the camera...what options are important to you?

And how big is your pocket for hiking? Would it fit a DSLR with a hefty telephoto zoom lens?
Those are very good photos. Some of those little pocket cameras take great photos. A lot of my best are with a Panasonic ZS-6.
Do you still have any of your Minolta lenses? Depending on the model and mount some of them will work on Sony DSLRs. I have seen posts here of members doing just that. Hopefully one of them will see this and help out. You might want to repost with a title that mentions Minolta lenses on dslr.

Welcome to UHH. Excellent images. The photographer makes the image, not the equipment, as you have demonstrated for us.

Would like manual focus and exposure, which I don't think I can get on these. Would like the focus to be crisp. I paid $140 for the camera I took these with. Would be willing to go $2-3K for camera and lens, if I am pretty sure I can do better.
Not sure what DOPE stand for. But if you are calling me a dope, I can agree with that.
This photo is straight off the Olympus SZ16 with the reflection setting. And I cropped a little off the bottom to get a little better balance.
I think the clearest photos I get with this camera are with this setting. Have been tempted to just use it and crop off the bottom half.

Would consider a car camera.

" dope" is not a bad thing!!! it means #2 photo is bad a$$
{beautiful !!!!}
Welcome. Your photographs are beautiful. I cannot imagine what you could do with landscape photographs if you had a Nikon D810 and a 14-24 f/2.8. They'd probably knock our socks off. Good luck.

Mike,
Would there be any advantage of a DSLR like the Olympus E-5 over the mirrorless like the Olympus OM-D E-M1?
Which would give the sharpest image?
