If anyone has this camera, please do me a favor and try taking a [b]horizontal[b] panorama shot in [b]high resolution setting[b].
My camera will only take a vertical panorama shot in high resolution and the Sony repair tech just emailed me and said that a high resolution panoramic shot cannot only be taken in vertical, not horizontal mode. This doesn't really make sense to me. He said this is the same with HX300 or WX30 Sony cameras.

Hi and welcome.

I have this camera and have taken several horizontal (camera held in landscape orientation) panoramas. The camera is always set at the highest resolution. As far as I am able to tell, the images were taken in high resolution.

It occurs to me that there may be a communication issue/misunderstanding between you and the tech. I also actually went through my manual using keywords "resolution" and "panorama" and was not able to find a reference to what the tech told you.

Now you have me wondering what's going on here.

Just found this link when I googled your problem. From what I am reading, it does take high res horizontal panoramas.

I agree that the tech may be confusing horizontal and vertical. The camera user manual specifies a horizontal but no vertical picture size for high resolution panorama. The email was signed by a Sr. Specialist Technical Support Alpha and Digital Image. It worries me that a Sr. Specialist doesn't know the difference between horizontal and vertical.

I found several camera review sites with high resolution panorama shots obviously taken in horizontal mode.
