First of all, Kevin, I'm so glad you took the initiative to open this forum and have George help. I snorkel and I mentioned Bonaire to George and he was very familiar with it also. I just wanted to put up a few of my Bonaire and Klein Bonaire photos and see if anyone else wanted to share some from Bonaire. I hope some snorkelers turn up in the forum too. I used a Canon D10 and did a little PP in Picasa (I'm still taking baby steps in photoshop). I just started snorkeling a few years ago but my thrill is taking the pictures underwater. (and on top) So, that said...any comments, criticism, or critiqueing welcome. Please correct any names I have wrong of the fish as sometimes it's hard for me to identify them. Still can do more with PP, just haven't had a chance.

I haven't dive-traveled as much as I'd like to have, but your shots really, really make me want to travel to Bonaire. I've always loved turtle's shells. They are absolute works of art and your shot evades the oh-so-common green underwater shot. Nice color! Thanks for sharing :-)

Oh, BTW, What housing are you using with the D10?

Thank you for the compliments. I need the ego boost sometimes.

The D10 doesn't have a housing. Actually that's why I got it. I was having so many problems seeing through the mask, then the housing, then the camera until I was very frustrated. If I can't take pictures under water I really wouldn't enjoy snorkeling so much. Anyway, the D10 is great because you don't need the housing and the LED readout shows the settings big so that it's easy to change them underwater without screwing up.

Bonaire's income is from diving, snorkeling, kite surfers and salt mines. If you ever want to go I know a lady that rents her studio that's ocean front, steps from the water and steps from a dive shop. There's even an photographer that teaches UW photography. It's at Bari reef and if you want to know more let me know. As you can see, I'm crazy about the place. I'll probably put more shots up soon. :)

Susan,
Those are beautiful photos, if you don't mind my asking where did you stay on Bonaire? I normally stay at Buddy's Resort. Try and get certified you will find it much more enjoyable once you do. I am just getting ready to download some photos. Some of them will be from Bonaire.

Beautiful work, nicely done.

Thank you, George. We stayed at the Sand Dollar. I went through VRBO straight through the owner. The Bari reef was RIGHT in front of us. Bonaire Dive and Adventure was right next to us and I think there's still a marine biologist there and a photo shop with diver that taught underwater photography.

If you're ever interested I'll give you the name of the lady I rented from. I was impressed because of all the info she gave us and never having gone to a little country like that it was very helpful. We were about 75 ft. from the (is it called a?) dive platform. That was great for me with there being steps off the side of it. My equilibrium is not the best and I'm not graceful going in or coming out of the water. Anyway, I look forward to seeing your photos. I may put a few more of mine here. I just haven't gotten to it yet.

I've had problems some too. I think it may have something to do with uploading to UHH. Not always, just occassionally.

I would guess flounder. The water is so clear there it makes me really want to get back. May go after my grandchild makes it into the world unless I'm visiting Ala. all the time to see him/her. :D

Nikonian,
No that is a flounder, one that has not changed its color to blend in with the sand. There are times they are almost invisible.

Sorry, I always think close-up or macro.

I know about them hiding. I saw one and by the time I got there it had disappeared. I was just cruising looking for it and it went fluttering away startling me so if I hadn't had a closed top snorkel, I would probably have been spitting and sputtering ocean water. :D

When I went to Bonaire I did not get a chance to go to klein we were staying right across from it a the bel-mar apt. We often joked about just swimming across to it,wich would not have been a good idea,,,anyway the shots are great you get to keep a lot of the color at the shallow depths and to me there is a lot more life also.
