I am looking to purchase a light weight travel camera. I am leaning towards the FUJI XE 2 Does anyone own this camera and if so are you satisfied with it. Will it sub for a full frame DSLR when traveling.

I don't have a full frame camera. I really like the Fuji and gave up my Nikon. My friend just bought the X-E2 on my advice and is thinking of selling hew new D7100.

I took a Fuji X-E1 on our trip to Europe this past summer. The only lens I had was the 18-55.
It was amazing. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Small size, but not too small to handle.
I have a couple of 16x20's on the wall from our trip.
They could go bigger.

Make sure you get it far enough in advance to get used to it.
Having old film camera experience helps.
It took me a while to get used to the electronic viewfinder, but everything else was so intuitive, I used it right after I got it for a couple of weeks without opening up the manual. Lots of thought went into the design. Fuji color is really nice too. Not unexpected, Fuji understands film and has been in the photo business a long time. As far as quality goes. Fuji made the X-Pan camera for Hasselblad. That should tell you something. Fuji lenses are pretty pricey but they are extremely good.

That being said, don't discount micro 4/3rds cameras like what Olympus and Panasonic have to offer. I was very impressed by the Image quality in the Panasonic GX1 I used for a while, but just didn't like the ergonomics. Lenses for those are more plentiful and economical than what Fuji has to offer.

I have the X-E1 and the 18-55 and 35mm lenses, ..... in fact Goofynewfy and and I regularly confer about it's qualities, and I, too, strongly recommend it or the X-E2 as a travel camera. It's an APS-C sensor (x 1.5 crop), but the image quality and colour representation is as good as you could wish for. It's all you need for travel ...... and will do an awful lot more as well !

There's one for sale on this site that you might like to check out ...... http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-237170-1.html

I have owned the XP1 and XE1 for 2 years, mucho satisfied (still tickled pink) and will easily sub (replace) FF DSLR abroad or at home.
The XE2 now has another $100.00 price drop with 18-55mm zoom.
If you want to go really light and incognito see if you can pick up the 27mm on the cheap.
Extra batteries? Look for Wasabi.
Put the Photography back into your photography.

Any camera in the $1000 range will work very well for general photography. The question is how much of your photography on your travels will be in the D800's sweet spot, and whether that is enough to justify the extra weight. And there is the additional expense of second system.

The most important consideration, though, is to make sure you are not uncomfortable with the EVF. When I played with one in the store, the EVF drove me crazy. I have yet to find an EVF I like, though I still need to try the EVF on the Olympus E-M1.

I own and use the Fujifilm X-E2, but I cannot say it will replace a DSLR. The manufacturer even says it will not do action photography very well, because of slow focusing, as I understand it.

I have found the X-E2 a little difficult to get used to for developing an intuitive sense of its controls and options.

I like the image quality and the film looks. ACR recognizes them. The "kit" lens has very good optics, and produces sharp images with good image quality.

I carried the X-E2 around for weeks trying it out and getting used to its capabilities. I like its small size and light weight for doing street photography, among other kinds of photography.

My sense tells me one day mirrorless cameras will catch up to the DSLR.

The photo below I took on the street in Ensenada with the X-E2.

buy the ex1 with the 18-55mm lens. if you are concerned about action buy the xt1. i own all of these cameras and do not hesitate to use any of them. if you want fixed lenses 23mm and 35mm are superb. the 18-55 mm lens is much better than the kit lens of nikon or canon. so i would skip the ex2 and go either ex1 or xt1

I have the XE1 which delivers excellent IQ. The AF is a little to slow for sports but fast enough for anything else. The XE2 is said to be faster but my XE1 has all the latest firmware to make it faster to focus. If money is tight or you want to save a little towards another lens get the XE1 you will find it to be a super bargain.

I have been a Nikon guy for over forty years, but in the past year have sold all my Nikon gear - D7100 and lens - and bought an XE-2 on the recommendation of a friend who is a pro. I have the 18-55, 55-200 and 60 mm lens. No it will not do everything my Nikon did - I miss the 1 to1 in macro - but for travel it is wonderful. It took a little while to acclimate to the different controls but the size of the body and the quality of the lens have made me happy. I would love an articulating LCD ala the XT-1 but overall am very pleased with the system.

Own it, love it! You will be impressed with the color, clarity, and sharpness. If you are into action shooting and/videos forget it. I find the images I take with XE-2 I spend less time in PP. A great camera for the $$$$

I have the XE-2 with the 18-55mm and the 55-20mm. I leave my nikon mostly in the bag. I downloaded the lastest Fuji firmware for the camera and the lenses. My autofocus time is now .005 sec and I am enjoying the added features that came with the downloads. I like the light weight and the camera function perfectly.

I currently have an X-E2 and a gaggle of lenses. I'm also getting the new X100T when it comes out in Nov.

It will most certainly sub for a DSLR; I sold a 5DIII and all the gear to go Fuji Mirrorless and love it.

However....

It depends on your expectations, shooting style, subjects, situations...etc.

My advice?

Borrow or rent one for a week and see if it floats your boat.
