I started out with a Mac years ago and was an ardent loyalist for a long time--now I have Samsung desktop and laptop. I'm considering a new laptop and looking hard at a Lenovo Y50UHD. My thought is that the margin between the Mac and Win products--both software and hardware-- has narrowed considerable. Display resolution is most important to me for the limited post processing I do on the road and there are MANY laptops out there that absolutely crush Macs in terms of resolution. All the software runs on both these days, so that Mac advantage is gone as well. I'm not sure of the back story about why Aperture went away, but that might indicate a troubling trend.

Macs are great if you're not smart enough to use a real computer ;)
Just kidding! Both systems, like Nikon and Canon, are great and have their disadvantages/advantages.
The thing is... and pay close attention:
If people spent as much money on a windows PC/laptop as they do a $1400 macboook, they would also be very happy. The problem comes in when people compare $600 Dells to a Macbook Pro.
Asus, Lenovo and Toshiba make some great PCs that are as good as, if not better than, any mac.
Just kidding! Both systems, like Nikon and Canon, are great and have their disadvantages/advantages.
The thing is... and pay close attention:

I agree. Why bother to have to learn another operating system when you can get a PC with equal or better performance for less! I have both Mac and PC products, they both do the job. Mac designs are slick and they look good, but you pay a hefty premium for the good looks but no improvement in performance.

My daughter uses a MacBook Air because her three previous laptops Dell, Samsung, and Acer expired for a variety of reasons (screen hinge broke, screen de-laminated, power cord connector broke off the motherboard). The Air costs more, but it is quality, light as a feather, has a high quality calibrated screen, and has the best trackpad going.
I used a PC, and more recently, a MacBook Pro. I really like the Apple environment and can move between my laptop, iPAD, and iPhone depending on where I am to use mail, calendar, notes, and applications. They are all the same in function except for the screen size and keyboard.
I spend no time fixing my Apple products and several hours a week fixing problems my wife has with her applications and operating system on her desktop PC.

I wouldn't trade in my macbook pro with retina for all the tea in China. The display is fantastic and i have yet to see a laptop display that can come close it. Macs simply work!! They certainly do cost more but IMHO they are worth every penny of it. They do not any anti-virus software which only slows down a pc anyway. I've had mine for 3 years now & it's as fast as when i first bought. It simply comes down to what you like and what works for YOU!!

Operating system for Mac is not complicated, so I don't see that as a handicap in a switch.
