I went out every morning in search of critters. The light was disappointing since the sun doesn't crest the coastal range until later. These were taken with a higher ISO.

On download the images were soft and noise was high, understandable with the low light situation you had. Info indicates--7D--manual-310-400mm--shutter 1/125--1/320. Suggest an increase in shutter speed to at least 1/400 or use of a tripod. It is tough when light is low. Capture was great and composition was very good.

Lovely captures Vicki.
Thanks so much Jim. It's not often I get a chance to "shoot" deer. We have them at home, but they generally stay out of sight until night. Then they come to "prune" our landscaping.:-D

Thanks so much for looking and for the good advice. I hope I'll have another chance to try out your suggestions. As an amateur, I'm still a little reactive to situations, and don't always put enough planning into my shots. I did use a monopod for some of the shots. The deer seem to go into hiding as soon as the light gets better, and they weren't too keen on having me there (along with my dog!).

Nice. They have very flexible necks.

Thanks Jerry. Yes, they can certainly bend around to get those itches farther back. One shot that I didn't post shows mom and baby doing some mutual grooming. It was a cute interaction.

Thanks so much Linda. It's so rare to have "big game" sightings, and so exciting when I do. Of course getting the shot is the challenge - especially before the sun is really up.
Nice, Vicki! I really like the first shot, so appealing, but the third is wonderful with all the expressiveness of the deer's face and eyes. I might clone out (or use the spot healing brush) some of the taller grass stalks, especially the one running across the neck and to the left of the photo. It's such a beautiful shot!
Excellent job, especially without good light.
